OC not showing in Windows 7

Hi all,

I have overclocked my Asus Extreme mbb with 4770K to 4.5 & 4.8 GHz. However the overclock is not shown in the Windows OS (7 64 bit). When I restart or turn off my PC and go into the BIOS the overclock is saved.

When I run various utilities such as CPUz and increase my CPU load to 100% the max it goes to is 3.8GHz.

Ihave tried resetting CMOS but no luck. I have the OC panel connected which reports 4.5 and 4.8 when in the OS. I have tried running just AIDA64 on its own and it is still giving back the same results.

In the BIOS:
AI OC Tuner: Manual
CPU Core ratio: all 45
EPU power saving: disabled
Fully manual mode: Enabled
CPU core V: 1.25

The rest all Auto or default. Have also tried with the XMP profile.

thanks for any help.

I think you have overclocked your cpu by changing the turbo boost multiplier instead of changing the normal multiplier, so when all cores are being stressed, the cpu is going to max out at "CPU HFM (Max)". I personally turn off turbo when overclocking

disable asus multicore enhancement

You need to go into the CPU settings..... Youve basically still got speed step and eist on (or what ever its called in that bios)

go to advanced and then cpu settings, it maybe another submenu again but youll have a huge list of options. Turbo actually needs to technically be turned 'off' iirc

Thanks for the advice. I tried disabled turbo but that disabled my OC, when i re-entered my OC, turbo was automatically enabled. i also tried disabling Asus multicore enchantment.

If you still have an overclock based on the Turbo then it will only show your clock when the CPU is under load. Sitting at idle taking screenshots on the desktop won't load the CPU :D

Just a thought have u tried with CPUID or some other cpu monitoring? If I remember correctly the OC pannel should be directly linked, therefor able to show the correct data, but hmm. Any errors during boot?

You may need to leave than fancy looking bios to access more options, looks quite limited there :/ and I think I might be right in saying on ASUS boards you need to leave Turbo Mode enabled (I know that sounds weird) but set the base to 4.8 and sync all turbo cores at 4.8. Remember to increase LLC, disable Spread Spectrum, enable Internal PLL Overvoltage, at those speeds you'll probably need to increase the Ring Voltage, up to 4.2 - 4.5Ghz you don't really need to play with this. Disable all energy saving features like EIST, C1E, C States, EPU Power Saving Mode, set CPU Power Phase Control to Extreme.

Ok, how about disconecting all that useless fancy gear and leave it at bare minimum, I.E only the necessities for PC function. After that look up a guide for overclocking and follow those steps, then report back. Also up the voltage then work down if you manage to achieve the clocks, try something like 1.35V (perfectly safe).

also try using prime or OCCT for stress testing....

EDIT: Did you bother doing anything theDTP recommended?

Thanks for your advice. I have done everything theDTP recommended and disconnected all the fluff.

This is my 1st overclock so i read the guide beforehand. I have re-read the guide again.

Any good? Cause there really isnt anything else that people are going to be able to do for you, at least I cant and it doesnt look like it wouuld be possible to diagnose your problem any further.

If you have followed the guide properly and it still doesnt work then there isnt really anything left I can think of...
