Noob Q: boiled water= distilled?

I dont want to afford a bottle of deionised/distilled water from Halfords/a garage so was wondering....if I boil water in a kettle or a pan, would that not purify it enought o be used in watercooling? Obviously the steam would be the cleanest bit, but what about whats left in the pan?

Cheapskate, I know, but I`m not paying several quid for water.

if you are that cheap just use tap water, boiling wont make any difference (unless you collect/condense the steam). If you have all copper parts then tap water with additive will be fine in a closed loop
 
I tried :( They had nothing at all :( 70p would be good though. Might go walkies to another thats further away later on though.

The reason for deionised water is because it doesn't conduct so if it spills inside you £1000 odd pound pc if you switch it off real quick and dry it out it shouldn't damage any components if yer not to worried just use tap water
 
LOL tap water it is then! Bad insulation on a Mach would have the same end result so the risk is the inverse of the attention to detail of the leak testing/ insulation.
 
If you know some nutty fish keeping freaks you could use what they call reverse osmosis water. They make this stuff by passing ordinary water through a special filter containing some mad membrane. My brother has one of these filters and he showed me the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) results for this type of water; 0.00 As for deionised water, the stuff sold for car batteries, that had a reading of 0.01
 
Doesn't deionised just ironise once it hits the waterblocks though?

Kenny if theres a local school near you go in to the science department and ask for some.
 
I guess I could try my friendly local semiconductor research cleanroom ;) (At my uni) I didnt think of that.
 
I bought my DI water from Sainsburys: 1litre for about 50p, near the bleach and cleaning stuff ... bit surprised to find it there!! In a white bottle with a blue top

um thats proper DI water mate, that will rot your system, pure DI is a very good solvent, try leaving some on clothing for a while..

You want distilled water not DI
 
ROFL....theres too many kinds of water!! AFAIK, there isnt a Sainsburys near me, and Somerfield definately doesnt sell it (I work there.) Collecting boiled water is slow and needs the right gear, so thats out the window too.

Slightly OT.. Got 2 more important problems at the mo.. I`m having trouble with my watercooling loop and its neatness, and my Zalman GPU block doesnt fit my 7800GT due to the screws being too thick... to the classifieds!
 
Yes I do want to buy your case, tragically i`m about £700 short... no, really. I have no money!

Sounds like you need a maze 4 low profile block mate - I just happen to have 2 available but CBA to advertise - will get round to it shortly though.

Agree with Mav, pick up a low profile maze.
 
what about the big blocks that cool the RAM as well as the block? The low-pros would be cheaper, but RAM cooling might help with a volt-mod.

Meh... i`ll muddle through somehow :)
