I have just built a mid range gaming rig and the only issue i am having is noise from my hdd's. They are the loudest thing in my case. Ant tips for silencing them? They appear to wrok fine,
You need to try and isolate the vibrations so that they don't reverberate in your case. What case have you got? How many drives? How have you installed them?
Just had a look at the way those hdd's mount into the hdd rack, and there doesn't appear to be that much dampening going on. I have used elastic in the past to mount hdd's. It just depends on how annoying they are to you and how much effort you want to put into silencing them?
I am actually thinking that it is developing a fault as one of them spins too fast. Will run some stress tests and try to determine whether one is faulty. Then next step is buying a quiter cpu cooler. Asus "Silent" Knight II is not that silent
i made the same expierience lately using 4x 500gb seagate barracuda 7200.10 in raid 0 (case: Corsair Obsidian 650D). the amount of vibriation the disks gave off to the case was just horrible. that's one of the reasons i do not use disks in my main rig anymore.
most funny thing is that those vibrations are not present when i use a 10000rpm WD Velociraptor.
finally, i heard a lot of good things about the sharkoon vibe-fixer. i may try this myself sometime, if i got any harddrive left then...
