Noise Cancelling headphones?

Anybody got any recommendations on a decent set of the above? To be honest, I'm not even looking to use them for music, just more for blocking out background noise while working on OC3D related stuff.

Shure E2C - sound mint and come with loads of nipples for the ends.

The expanding foam ends are akin to ear plugs... Can be had on amazon for less than £20 delivered...

Shures SCL2's just got some, and they are amazing.

Which are basically the E2's just studio version.

Ive heard the CX300 to be good too, just don't get them fake ones on ebay. Theres even a guide on spotting them on ebay.

edit: linky

Did someone say Nipples?

That works for me. I don't care what they sound like, I just like the thought of lots of different nipples in my ears. :yumyum:

Cheers for the suggestions guys. I'll go check em out (even the nipples :yumyum:).

Reps all round

Bloody hell Jim, you've given out reps! You never give out reps! Ta mate.

Was it the nips that did it?

now what i have and using at the moment is the Fatal1ty Headsets !

those babys are awesome :D

check out this link here and check the specs im sure ull like em  one of the things that will cancle noise is that the cord is Oxygen-Free Copper !! so more noise canceling !!

iv been using them for over than 2 month now and using them for almost everything and they are excellent :D

but one of the bad things is that it makes too much pressure on the head but u loose the feeling after a while :p

I bought that exact same headset about 1 - 2 months ago from amazon.. used them for a week or so and it was all fine until I used them for about 3 - 4 hours plus and it hurt my ears quite a bit.. Then the day after a shorter period caused the same pain as they hadn't recovered so I decided to send them back. All good for short to medium use and of good quality but for long gaming sessions not so good.

same here , i didnt feel the pressure the first 2 weeks and then ,....i started playing Project Reality online for like 5 or 6 hours straight , when i took em off my head was going to explode all over my room :p

i think the whole pressure is made for something actuely , try it out ur self ! get a pair of basic headsets and they wont be casuing any pressure at all !

put 1 finger at each one and press , u will hear clearer sound and more base sounds !! so in the overview its gonna give u better sound ! so maybe thats why this is made for the Fatal1ty headsets ! :)

If you're just looking to block out noise try these earplugs;

http://www.earplugsonline.com/

They're wax and very comfortable - you can wear them in bed all night without getting uncomfortable - and they've got excellent noise attenuation (34dB); the best I've tried - I've used them in a noisy aircraft c0ckpit and they're much better than my noise blocking headset or any noise cancelling headset I've tried.

Alternatively, you can get some Howard Leight earplugs on ebay very cheaply.

They're the next best thing I've tried - They're excellent in noisy aircraft c0ckpits, but not as comfortable as the wax ones over long periods, and they don't give as much noise reduction.

By the way, noise cancelling headsets are very different from noise blocking headsets (which is what people have been recommending) - noise cancelling headsets work on adding a reverse phase signal of the background noise in ear, thus cancelling it out - they can be very effective in certain situations but they're a good bit more expensive than the ones you've had recommended.

For simple noise blocking/noise attenuation the earplugs are the most effective.

(incidentally - I can't type c0ckpit with an o without getting loads of smilies)

ps. 'noise cancelling' mic's are simply inactive till you start talking.

Also most headsets use 'oxygen free copper' - the difference is in how close they are to %100 oxygen free - how many 9's is usually how they're judged eg. 99.8% ofc vs 99.998% etc.

firefly I am sure the earplugs you mentioned are very good, but not a lot of us live in aircraft hangers? ;) I think the point is surely to get the best in game sound without interference and not to be oblivious to an earthquake or a burglar murdering your wife with a chainsaw.(though that may ultimately lead to you having more peace during gaming). :D

While I haven't tried the most expensive headphones on the market, I have never found any that are comfortable for more than 2 or 3 hours. They either make your ears sweat or the enclosed ones aren't "ear" shaped so they make your tabs hurt. If they sound really good like the "Fatality" (aptly named), but crush your head as a trade off for blocking outside noise, I think I will stick with the outside noise but turn up the volume a bit thanks! ;)

Sure, earplugs are no good for gaming - you'll not hear owt - but I thought he just wanted something to block out background noise? In which case earplugs are the cheapest and most effective option.

There are in ear headsets available (which block out a lot of background noise) but the better quality ones are quite expensive - they'll be much more comfortable than ear clamping sets.

The shure earphones people have been recommending look good - similar sets I've tried have been pretty good.
