Noctua NH-D14 Still king?

Game Over

Hey what's up OC3Ders, I have been away from the site and PC tech news for quite some time, is my Noctua NH-D14 still considered the top dog air cooler? Been out of the loop and was just curious if something significantly better came along in its class since I was last here.

The H100/H100i is regarded the best cooler now, if you don't mind all in one watercoolers.

The NH-D14 is still the best air cooled heatsink though.

Theyre all so close that there really isn't that big a difference in them. The H100 does slightly outperform the D14 but it has to be spinning so fast that the noise makes it impractical. So while it might not be the top most cooler, its right up there neck and neck and separated by only a couple degrees and then when you consider its literally silent, its hard to find a reason not to consider it one of the absolute best.

Still NH-D14 all the way.
I'd take that over an H100i even tbh, when you do the maths -
£20 per fan, £7 for the TIM, making the heatsink itself cost like a tenner...

I'd only get a Hydro solution if space requires it (...slightly ignoring the H80 I bought last week ;) )

I'd had mine cooling my 3770k at 4.5ghz without temps going above 70 degrees, with fans both at 5v too... It's the best performing cooler if you're spinning the fans incredibly slowly IMO.

Anyway - it's like 5 years old now, and I'd still take that over a H100i that only came out this year. Definitely not worth upgrading it, unless you're doing a custom loop.

NH-D14 isn't the best but it's one of the top coolers.. just depends which review you read. PH-TC14PE, NH-D14, Silver Arrow SB-E, HE01, Dark Rock Pro 2, K2/Assassin.. all very close in performance.

The Phantek PH-TC14PE and the NZXT Havik 140 come close to the NH-D14. They certainly look better, but if you want the best performance from an air-cooler, the NH-D14 is still king.

In terms of performance there are a few other air coolers that can match or beat it depending on the review u look at.

however when u take performance, quietness, and ease of installation.. all together, the Noctua still wins.

But as som1 said, thats untill Noctua bring out its replacment that was announced at computex.
