Overclocking, thats why we are here right? To eek out every last mhz from our components in an effort to beat the banker deal or no deal style! Trouble is when overclocking the trade of is an increase in heat [sad face].

Here at OC3D we have been lucky enough to have tested many of the quality coolers from Noctua, one of which the NH-D14 is as far as we are concearned THE best air cooler on the planet. Not only is it the best performing air cooler we have ever tested, but is also about as close to silent as you are ever going to get.

But now the time has come for us to share the love, thanks to Noctua we have a pretty large haul of Noctua Cooling goodies to give away to our forum members! If you take a look below theres not 1 but 3 NH-D14's to give away, 2 NH-U12P SE2's and 5 Noctua cooling kits!

With prizes like these you must be wondering what the hell you have to do to have a chance of getting your hands on them? Well its all very simple, you just need to be a member of our forums post in this thread and pretty much tell us why you should win. This could be pictures of your current cooling system and why it needs updating, it could be telling us why you think Noctua are epic, hey Im always in the mood for an ego boost tell me too! The possibilties are endless, videos, photos, anything the more effort you put in the better a chance you might have. At the end of August the OC3D team and Noctua will get together and decide who is best....

My current cooler is a Noctua. It's a bit pants on AMD and therefore I would like to try one of their new coolers just to see if it performs better on AMD.

I love my Noctua, it's the Saab of PC components, but I can't afford to replace it with a more expensive one as it cost me a pretty penny.

There. That's my entry

I have a ZALMAN that gives me a load temperature of 82°C at 4GHz with an E5300.

In order for me to actually overclock I need a better cooler

I must say Tom, you're looking mighty fine today

Currently using a Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme on the LGA775 platform. It's a great cooler but it is really out of date now and there are much better offerings on the market. I need to keep my system as cool as possible as it is an overclocking rig. I test the maximum potential of the system on air cooling with a low multiplier and maximum FSB wherever possible. The cooler the CPU, the better it works. If I could shave off 5 to 10c using a Noctua I'd be very, very pleased!

Yo, Toonshorty, no spicing up Mr Logan!

I've tested the Noctua NT-H1 and it is a great thermal paste.

Im sure photos, videos and a bit of effort might help everyones chances. A couple of lines of text isnt very impressive

I like to run my system fast and quiet and I've spent a ton already trying. Noctua stuff is the best when it comes to quality and noise, I have a NF-P12 and its great. The NH-D14 looks amazing and exactly what I would like to buy if I could afford it right now to replace this:

I went from a Zalman something with load temp on 65 celsius it really sucked ! i bought it because it looked cool. then i heard a lot of good stuff about the D-14 so i bought the noctua D-14 and went right down to a max load temp of 37-39 its look amazing and its quiet , and the quality of the fans, damn !. you can just feel that its made by the best = Noctua! it was indeed all the money worth .

im kinda hoping for a third place

I wish I had a cool story on why I need 1 of these, but the truth is I dont. I'd love to have a quiet computer, and Im currently in the process of selling my current pc. Im looking at buying either the Silverstone FT02 or a Lianli to replace my ugly haf and having some free high class components inside would be lovely

At the moment i'm using a standard AMD cooler and i'd really like to overclock but with a standard cooler.. hmm, i'm not going to risk it,

so it would be really nice if i had a decent cooler (like a Noctua). (:

At the end of the month my new shiny computer should arrive. The CPU is an AMD Phenom II x6 1090T.

As soon as I did the purchase I thought to myself: if I want to actually do some overclocking without killing the innocent new CPU I need some better cooling. The options were 3:

1. Watercooling

2. My current cooler for my single core: ASUS Triton 81

3. The Noctua Cooler

- The first option is a bit overkill at the moment and the total cost to get the pump, res, blocks etc is just too much.

- The second option of the Triton 81. Let’s be honest, the cooler is: HORRIBLE. The temperatures are just as bad as a stock cooler. And yes, the thermal paste is well set.

- The third option is and in my opinion the best one: a NH-D14 (or NH-U12P SEZ).

Even if I don’t win this competition I WILL buy one. The reviews both from Tom and other sites are just off the charts! For this new computer I bought the best and will cool it with the best!

The Noctua NH-D14 to me is the king of air coolers it combining a massive six heatpipe dual radiator design with an exquisite NF-P14/NF-P12 dual fan configuration which gives it the edge over any existing fun now on the market but the most attracting feature in this beautiful art of cooling is its silent fans which give you a Airflow of 64.9 - 54.3 CFM but obtain a low sound level of 19.6 - 19.8 dB which is so quiet that you can barely hear them, the NH-D14 is built for ultimate quiet cooling performance Topped off with a tube of Noctua's award-winning NT-H1 thermal compound as well as the new SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system, the NH-D14 is an elite choice for the highest demands in premium quality quiet cooling and it also has an amazing feature that is the NF-P14 fan is a 14'' fan which makes it a bit bigger than the heartsick and this allows it to suck cold air over your ram and by that achieving a dual cooling purpose. I have been overclocking for 10 years now and have seen many coolers through the years but never have I seen something that has an incredible cooling performance with such a low sound level which makes this cooler unique and stand on top of all that has been introduced till now, also the outstanding colours of the fans make it look amazing. I'm new to OC3D but I know tom is one of the kings of water overclocking and the fact that he has a NH-D14 says it all.

Dear Mr Noctua.

Here you will find a picture of my current cooler, the Nh92 or whatever the model number is.

I am quite a sad person in life, and like many a big cooler improves the mental size of my phallus.

Due to this I am feeling quite inadequate at this particular moment in time, because there are far bigger versions of my cooler out there.

I have tried to overcome this little problem of mine but it just won't seem to go away.

As you can see by other people's coolers mine pales in comparisson. Due to this I feel very insecure about myself and haven't been able to perform (ahem) as well as I normally would. My wife is threatening to leave me and all of my friends are laughing at me and have began to call me 'peewee'. Now as you know, this is not good for a man. A man should be the alpha male and able to show off his size very well, and boast about his prowess.

So with that said please help me.

Boomshanka (may the seed of your loins be fruitful in the belly of your woman).

Love,

Alien

The reason I want one of the prices (Mostly the cooling kit.) Is because I want my PC as silent as possible. And I know the Noctua fans can give me that because I own a Noctua NH-D14. My NH-D14 got my Intel Core i5-750 to 4GHz easily with good temps and I know it can take it even higher which is insane. It's the very best cooler I've ever had and it's so silent, but my PC is still not silent enough because of the noisy stock fans in my case. I'm a huge fan of Noctua and I recommend everyone I know that's interested in PC gaming to get products from Noctua so please give me some fans!

Beat the banker hey? EPIC tune by Stenchman....

biggrin.gif

Anyways, by the by...I now have to write on MS word, >.< Keeps crashing...soooo...

Whats the relation to these blue screens i see before me? A cooling issue maybe? Hmmm...how splendid.

Im on water, not literally, im sat on my epic ikea sofa bed looking at a screen around 60inches on HD projector hee hee, its not mine though
sad.gif
. Im not that lucky. I WANNA BE IN GREECE!!! Someones going to have to come and save my sanity. Sanity??? UH??!? New word for me. TUNNNNNNNNNEE!!!! Im ramping out some epic Black Sun Empire! GET TO IT PEOPLE!!!! My Girl is away for 3 weeks, I cannot do this!!! Do what you ask?. RSI... For those who know, youll laugh ..or maybe cry. I have some lush advice for those of you who ...well...i dunno. Ive lost track now...Track? Railways!!! I like trains i do...

This is another epic competition on here!!! Im using me Steelseries Keyboard, om nom nom. I love how the family complain about the noise of me typing, I simply explain the situation, put up with it, or ill start singing. And thats not a good thing to be doing.

OMG¬!!! Another amazing tune!!!! Time for a cigarette, brb....

So yeah, that was a nice rollie, i must say, amber leaf, the true idiots choice.

Right, this cooling thing...AH hA! Computers...my favourite topic, omg. You should’ve seen the look on my partners mothers face when i got talking about computers on the phone to someone the other day., I think i scared her, i think she thinks im like a geek. But im no geek, im a god, well, a disciple of Tinytommys.
biggrin.gif
....TOM!!!! What am i writiting dude? OK ok ok ok...Noctua!!

LETS GO!!!

I RUDDY ROVE NOCTUA!!!! I remember having the old NFP12’s DAMN!!!! Those were fun, did you ever stick your tongue into them??? Ha ha ha, vortex dribble control. IT would go EVERYWHERE!!! And you all complained about the colour of the fans,. Tut tut, should see the colour of me in the morning, or the clothes i wear, Actually, i look like a noctua fan, I has my tweed suit on, slightly blondey ginger hair and a maroon top. HA HA HA!¬!! Im a walking billboard. 2 secs, gonna see if i can spin as fast as one....

Ok...maybe that didn’t work, sorry floor, didn’t mean to hit you so hard. Best thing is....i dunno/

But yeah, so im running on water now, got a ddc pro, some reservoir, some triple rad, some fans and some tubing. I don’t think I have coolant in there though, well, it was orange to begin with, and now its just like, omg....Did i just go to the toilet in my computer? 497 words!!! Touch typing. Am i waffling on? Sorry...

Back to topic, Trains? No ,....FANS!!! noctua, and all things noctua.

I loved my old fans, they were the dogs, and every review ive seen of all of the hardware is just intense. How can a company come storming into the race and simply take over? I do hope you are here to stay.

Few reasons why:

Do you know how annoying it is when your sat there, quiet bit of a movie and all you can hear is...bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....”click click” bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....(ps, thats my pump and my hdd clicking. >.<)

I did always mean to go back onto air, but I never got round to, I lost a screw for my CNPS9700, so i sort of gave it to a mate, whos cat then used his computer as a toilet. Mind you , you should’ve seen my skill. I managed to make a bracket out of 12 cable ties and some rubber bands. It was lush!!

Is it ok to say i was jealous of a computer i built for a friend.? Because his was so quiet, it was simply lush. The clocking of his E6300 was epic too. I miss my old air cooling. I think air cooling a rig is a challenge. It adds to the fun of overclocking. It makes you have to take more things into consideration and be so precise on everything. Cos things go pop. With water, its just like,. RAMP IT UP FELLA!!!! And away you go...

But with air, its simply, an art. Keeping under the target temp you set yourself, making sure you don’t have to get your credit card handy. And well, as im using duct tape a fan shroud, then, you can sort of see my point.

I can safely say, I want to be back on air, everyone knows this. And seeing as im yet to get around to it, I think this would just be the ideal opportunity. Then im going to make my mum a garden water feature with my old watercooling. Some form of , god knows. Ill figure it out.

But air coolers are sculptures. Its honestly that simple, its a fine blend of what the eye wants, and what the heart needs. Seeing everything fully working and knowing your trusting everything on some crafted engineered piece of hardware just makes me smile. And noctua, you guys, yeah, i like you....

My rant over, but i may come back in a minute, my tea is still cooking and Im not really hungry...
biggrin.gif
....

PEACE!!!

ps...like my new british blue kitten????
biggrin.gif

Btw, listen to Claude Van Stroke, Deep Throat, TUNE!!!!
