No sound :(

Hi folks, i recently bought a GTX 260 from the forums and am using my dvi-hdmi adaptor. However i am not getting any sound though it. I am even using the green speaker cable and am getting no sound to my speakers either. I have checked my drivers and it says they are all up to date.

Have edited the output options in the Sound options? Windows Start Menu search> Sound and set playback as the speakers?

You are using a dvi to hdmi, which is were your problem is. Dvi cannot transfer sound, which in turn does not allow the hdmi to transfer sound when using an adapter.

I understand that much, just don't see why my speakers aren't working even though they are plugged into motherboard via the green out put.

DVI carries video only (Digital Video Interface) Just don't know why my speakers will not play any sound. I have even plugged them into my headphone socket on the front panel and still nothing. Even though my headphones work on the headphone jack.

Would there be any point in using the spdif connector for the motherboard??

Maybe your speakers are busted.

Please post a video of this working. Even if it could there is no monitor on the planet that has an auxiliary out for your speakers that's linked to DVI, only HDMI. Which means you have a VERY unique monitor and the only cable on the planet that has a DVI which transfers sound. I need a video for proof.

Wait. How do you have this configured?

I have the dvi-hdmi adaptor plugged into my card. Then have a hdmi cabke plugged into the adaptor and into my tv. I then have the sound cable plugged into my pc and the other end into my audio in on my tv. I had the exact same set up with my 4890 and had no issues with sound.

What playback device is your computer set to?

Is there a setting on your tv where you can tell it where the sound is coming from? Could it be expecting it from the HDMI but not getting it because it is DVI at the other end?

Tried that and i have had no luck

I have bough motherboard - graphics spdif cable to see if that does anything. If not i shall be selling the card on ebay and buying a card with dedicated hdmi. Why can't things just be simple

Problem has been solved. The spdif mobo connector has done the trick. Thanks to everybody who has tried to help.

So for people trying to resolve this issue this will do the trick and allow the dvi to output audio wohoo!!
