Nice to be back

The Webmaster
Well, as you can see I've had some downtime... I'm an oldschool member from way-back-when. (before Tom was even on the boards, let alone given the reigns :P) But I figured I'd re-post a 'hello' not sure if anyone is still around that will remember me, seems like a whole new crowd here these days.

A lot has happened since I was last lurking around here, I'm a fully fledged web developer now, I work in Lincoln for a web design company as their lead developer and do all the super technical stuff, programming the CMS, eCommerce stuff.. all sorts. We're just about to venture into the world of apps all being well...

Anywho it's nice to be back, and I'll need some overclocking advice soon for my new rig. So watch this space :)

Cheers

Welcome back to :oc3d: :)
And also a congratulations for your employment ventures - seems like you're doing well.
Look forward to seeing you around.

Thanks guys, appreciate the welcome!

@Josh, yeah when I was first here I was a budding designer and have since learnt the ways of the programmer, and I'm much happier tbh :) (plus the money is better)

Thank you all for the welcomes and kind words :)

@Tom, what exactly did you have in mind?:)

As it stands we're dipping our toes into using the Adobe Flash Builder software to try and create cross platform/cross device apps, using a php server back-end to collate data for our needs...

I've used Flash Builder before, from when it was called Flex, I actually built our eCommerce administration system using that until Apple went 'sorry no flash on iDevices' .. so I'm about 85% through re-writing it all in php/javascript which will again be changed in time I should think. Either way I'm pretty glammed up on Action Script 3 (or at least I was, I'll need to polish up).

Again, it's really nice to have the welcome messages :) Thanks guys.

Tom we should definitely talk! ;)

Yeah you'd think so, but Flash builder 'apparently' compiles them to work natively in iOS..

In 'fast production mode' it will wrap a flash swf in an Adobe air wrapper that will work on the devices I believe but when you do the full compile it's apparently just as good as writing it in C++ (or close to it).

Personally I'm yet to be convinced, but, none of us know C++ well enough to spend the time to learn that (yet, but I am keen still), and my action script 3 / httpservice / xml / php knowledge is high enough from previous development, that we think if there's a solution we can try, we'll try it first. *shrug*

I have to admit at this point I'm skeptical, but if it works.. it works.. what else can you say.

Heh thanks :) although I've had it nearly 5 years now, it's nice to hear some congratulations from some fellow nerds :P
