New Windows Install Freezes

So it worked fine on a normal hdd? sorry to hear that, but then it must be the SSD. I would just contact seller and RMA it. Dunno if you break warranty if you update it, but most likely you do. so i think a RMA is best. Or ask suport first.

Yup, I think it would be a good idea to contact support and see what they can tell you 1st before heading the RMA route. Is the SSD brand new?

The strange thing is that the drive is visible and usable on the PC but the install just never finished. It always froze at the completion stage.

I will try plugging it directly in but I think we may have to RMA that pos.

And yes it is brand new, we just opened it.

Yes do that. This is exactly how my first SSD was. It was highly unstable until it went completely dead and didnt longer show up in windows or bios.

Did you contact the customer service for the drive or RMA to the seller?

If you bought it from a local retailer, you could bring it in and ask them to see what's wrong and if they can't do anything about it, then I'd go directly to the manufacturer for the RMA.

I have never had to do that but then again I use raid so the raid bios I guess formatted it for Win 7 to see it

Yup, I would have thought for SSDs or any of the newer hard drives Windows 7 will automatically partition them correctly.

Sorry for late reply. I returned it to seller and they RMA it. I recieved a new one when they could verify it was dead.

Found a solution, just in case anyone was wondering.

Crucial SSD Partition

Good that you found a solution. Havent experienced that on a SSD, because W7 and bios always found the SSD and set it up automaticly. Its not a good solution for people with only a SSD and no spare hdd

Yup, usually you'd only need to partition the drive correctly before the OS setup if you were to use Windows XP. Windows 7 is so much easier and with the new SSDs out now, it's so much easier.

Why is this not in an instruction manual?

Ive heard about this, but it normally dont show up in bios if you dont "make" it in windows with a letter. Also strange that it shows up in bios and run that unstable... Anyways, good that you got it sorted out.
