Hey everyone need little help and guidance on a new system going to build. Below are specs:

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) -

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4890 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C9)

Antec Signature Premium 650W Power Supply

Antec 300 Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS)

------------------------------------------------------------------------

What i'm not sure about is that the mortherboard says is supports DDR3 2000+/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules but my memory is 1600mhz so will it work?

Also tell me what u think to the system and anything u would recomend changing. I'm aiming for a mid range system really, spending about 800 pounds all in.

Thanks Fud

Very good. Personally I'd swap the Seagate for a Samsung F1 (great and not much more expensive for a 1TB), the Antec 650 for a Corsair HX series (about the best PSU on the market right now) and definitely get a bigger case (the 300 is sleek, but so damn small for high end i7 components imho).

You haven't mentioned a CPU cooler. A TRUE, Megahalem or Noctua would be the way to go.

And yes the memory will work fine.

I'm going to just get the retail version of the i7, will overclock it a little but nothing crazy u think that would be ok? Thanks for the heads up on the case to :)

i7s are hot. It will be dependent on what the chip wants to do ;D

You may get a small overclock out of it. But i would suggest that if you overclock it at all you get a aftermarket cooler on it.

Nice build choice mate.

There's a few suggestions, though.

If you're not alien to the idea of RAID, I'd get RAID 0 Caviar Black 640GB hard drives, they use two 320GB platters, so they've got a higher data density than most other drives.

And for a CPU cooler, I'd get a Prolimatech Megahalems, with a 38mm deep fan.

Don't worry about the Antec 300, it's a small case, but it can take any graphics card/CPU cooler available, and it loves to be modded. :)

i dont know why you guys are hating on the 300! its a great case superb airflow with the right fans and is easily modded too do sweet cable management, if you look at my cable management on the rig gallery then you will see where im getting at.

Thanks for all the help guys, went and got the antec 902 instead of the 300, just thought would save me any trouble in the future if i put some kind of super human graphics card in haha :)

U think i can get 3-3.5ghz out of it with the standard retail cooler or u still recon i should get a new cooler

I'd get a new cooler if funds allow, it'll be quieter, let the chip run cooler and may let you overclock more. I've heard good things about the Megalems cooler (I think that's what its called) or maybe a TRUE with push pull fans.
