What server case are you using? Hotswap caddies?

If you are just using a server case why not use the stock cooler?

What OS are you using?

I have my system drive mirrored in my server, just using the onboard raid. Are you going to buy a raid card for the storage drives?

i will probily in about a year or 2 when i get more mony saved but when i hav done with this i will be doing a new gaming rig then think about a raid card for the server and another 5 2TB drives (=10 all in) after that

One of the main reasons I'm using Windows Home Server v1 is that you can add drives of any size as you go. With RAID you have to buy everything up front because you have to have the matching disks...

ya i used that for a wile to but i foud out when u take one disk out of the server and put it in to another computer it wont work intill you format it so if the server dies then you cant get to eny of the files on the drives

According to all the documentation the drives should be readable.

ya thot the same till i had problems with it so had to take some drives out and i put them in to my main system but it woudent make the drives avalibal untill i formated them wich was realy anoying

so when you ad the drive to the WHS hd pool it will only work on the server

Look forward to seeing you put this together. I have bought stuff from Xcase in the past and think they are really good.

Have you watched any of Jamo's vids? He makes me laugh...

Is that going in a Rack?

I tried using the onboard RAID for a simple mirror, but under Server 2008 it would get corrupted in a few days and I'd have to reload again. It worked fine under Win7 though. I dumped the onboard RAID and used software mirroring built into 2008 instead and haven't had an issue since, been over a year now.

If I had more drives in my server I'd go a proper RAID card, but I only have two 1TB drives. Mostly all I store is my iTunes library, pictures, and Software patches/updates/ISO etc so I really don't have a need for that much storage.
