Planned set-up for new build.

They are other options outthere that may be cheaper in the SSD market. At the low capacity drives most ssds are limited in speed.. so i would say stick to a good brand but get the cheapest one possible.

The Evo/Pro is quite a difference. Evo uses TLC nand flash and thus will die faster than the MLC in the Pro. Now the drive will still last you about 6ish years and by then you would have already replaced it but its worth noting. Its the same as the regular non evo/pro drive except in the fact it has a "boost" state that kicks in for heavy duty loads. It allows it to speed up for short periods of time and maintain almost the same performance as the Pro but the more often it boost the faster it will die. The Pro is constantly fast running at the same speed but won't die any faster. Should last about 8 or 9 years iirc.

I have only used Samsung so far for SSD's. I have a 256gb pro installed and it has stood well. 2 OS installs and it still delivers.

Any other brands you could recommend?

Samsung, Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, Intel are all the bigger name ones. I own 3 of thoe named brands except for Samsung all in my rig.. Never had a problem with any.

This rig is gradually coming together. Currently have the i5 processor, corsair 8gb (4gbx2) ram sticks, fractal case and the corsair ax860 PSU (awaiting delivery).

Motherboard, cooling, gpu and storage drives still indecisive about.

Thank you OC3D for your assistance and advice.

Motherboard I am looking to get the the MSI Z87-GD65 gaming.

Cooling I may stick with the stock cooler until everything is stable. H100i is what I was planning on.

GPU I have a 6870 from when I built my first rig so I could re use that or the 7870 tahiti in my current rig.

Storage I may reuse my current samsung 840 pro for boot and the seagate barracuda for mass storage.

Most of this is my planned idea of what I can do but not set in stone. Will continue to research my choices.

As for the cost. I can save a bit my reusing some HDD's and extra components I have.

Total cost will be tallied up with the finished project. As a current estimate this will either be under or over £1000.

i would reuse the old parts and when you have enough money you are willing to spend for newer hardware then do so. Until then moving your older stuff into it will still be a very capable machine.
