New power supply

Recently I have bought a AMD FX-8320 and MSI 990FXA-GD65. Didn't realise it required a 8 pin and my current PSU doesn't have one and personally it is complete and utter crap, don't realise what possessed me to buy it... Oh wait being a poor student and requiring a larger Wattage psu... Right over that, I am still a poor student but worked my ass off to upgrade certain parts of my computer and have most things ready just need to get this last part but I am bad at working out the power consumption of the computer so I turn to the faithful forum to help me out! :D

The components that I have are:
CPU: FX-8320
Motherboard: MSI 990FXA-GD65
RAM: Corsair 16GB 1600MHz
HDD: 2x 1TB, 1x1.5TB and 1x2TB
Optical: DVD-RW and BR-ROM
GPU: 560Ti 448
PCI: Wireless card
and use of upto 7 USB devices.

I have checked power calculators and they suggest 678W but I want to just make sure that it is correct or what would be the best thing for me to actually get. What do you guys think?

EDIT:
Budget of around £90

To be honest I think youd be fine with a decent 600W but personally I'm more comfortable going overkill. Maybe a Corsair TX650M? Or if you're not bothered about lack of modularity, this XFX, made by Seasonic and got a decent review on Jonnyguru.

The XFX Pro 850w XXX version is only £5 over budget, also made by Seasonic and modular.

As far as im aware unless you do things like folding and your running everything at literally max with 7 devices all pulling an amp from the usb ports (assuming they are 5w usb) then you would need a 600W PSU.
If its every day usage and a bit of gaming 500 or 550 will be fine, if your going for an efficient PSU to save the pennies on the electricity side of things then i'd see if you can measure how much you pulled from the wall with your old MoBo during a game and get a PSU double that wattage, (i'm going by corsair efficiency curves and my own experience).
The GPU and CPU have set TDP which should be overkill anyway.
But i would suggest going for a decent brand like Seasonic or Corsair, even if this pushed the budget a tiny bit.
Hope this helps

Yeah it will be used for a bit for folding this year as I have all bills included on my rent so I am happy to leave it running for a week straight and not incur a fee on the power usage.

All that is sound info as well. Was speaking to a friend who has a lot build experience said that it should be a 800W minimum. Also I can stretch another £10 on the budget to make it £100.

You'd actually pretty easily get by on that on 500w.

I've run a 3770k and a GTX670, both overclocked on a 500w Silverstone Strider without any problems...

Speaking of which - that's what I'd recommend.

If you aren't bothered about modularity, then you'll save quite a lot of money, but I personally wouldn't buy anything that isn't modular anymore.

look for a post, by ninja called mini, i posted screen shots using an i7 at max with a 780 gtx at max load only pulling 300W, if you want to spend more money then thats fine. We were just advising, just go for a decent brand is the main key, or you could end up losing your PSU prematurely or causing damage.

That is some sweet stuff there! Thanks for clearing that up. It has helped a lot. I think I may get a Corsair HX650. Just to be slightly on the safe side.
Still you guys were a great help!
Thanks
Mr.a

Glad it helped. And thats fair enough you just did not need a massive supply. And with the 650 you have room for sli even 780's although id probs go a little higher for longevity.

Thanks for that. I may consider a sli setup later on but at the moment since funds are tight I will stick with a single graphics. :D

System powerdraw will increase significantly when you oc amd 8-core CPU's.
Something like 250w or more powerdraw if you try to have a go at 5ghz oc.
Its worth considering i think.

That seems quite a lot of power for an OC, but ive never played with AMD cpus much. Still i think MrA is fine with 550W or 600W, to cover all bases and ill hopefully be folding again soon, once i move
