Hi all, I'm making a new PC which will mainly be used for a combo of games/photo editing and HTPC, what are your thoughts on this...

Case - Corsair Obsidian 550d
Mobo - Asus Sabertooth Z77
CPU - i7-3770k
RAM - Corsair 16gb vengeance 1600 (upgrading to 32gb corsair dominator gt 1866)
PSU - Corsair AX860i
Cooling - Corsair H80i
Boot Drive - 256gb Samsung 840 pro
Storage Drive(s) - WD Red 3 tb
GFX - Evga GF GTX 660i 2Gb (might upgrade to 2x in SLI)

looks good
maybe go with h100i instead of h80i if the case supports it, not sure right now

Thanks, the only reason I went with the H80i was I didn't want to open either of the two panels on the case

You really don't need a Ax860i, a decent 550w will do ya :)
Even if you wanted to futureproof for SLI, you could get away with a 650w/700w :)
Also I'm personally not too keen on the WD Reds, I'd go for a WD Black :)

Apart from that, rig looks very good and you'll be happy :)

And there's no reson to get 32Gb of RAM... I have 16Gb myself and can't get it even half used when playing or editin pretty much anything, so I'd save some cash by choosing 16 instead of 32. This is just an opinion though, if you want 32 then go for it =)

Couple of things, not sure if photo editing is enough of a reason to get an i7, but I'm curious why you want the WD Red?

Thanks for the input all.
I went for the i7 as I will be doing a lot of video transcoding.
32 is just something I will probably add at a later date when finances allow (or maybe I won't)
As for the reds, would I be better with the blacks?
Power wise I want to future proof for SLI and I intend to get up to 5-6 storage drives that's why I thought the 860i would be better

reds are intended to be used in servers / raid arrays iirc. if you want to put them in raid1 for example go with reds. otherwise blacks for normal use

If I recall, a few people have had issues with REDS on these forums, but maybe that was due to a bad batch. Other than that, everything else looks good to me.

looks like a solid computer. do the 8 core AMD's not match up to the intels in video encoding? I thought that was one of the benefits of AMD cpu

Get an HD 7950 unless you're doing work on Adobe stuff. It's very close to a 670 at a 660 Ti's price

depends on your definition of close. my overclocked 7950 performed 15% worse than my new 670 on stock clocks. but i agree, for the money the 7950 is better.
