New PC ideas...

In the not-too-distant future, i'm gonna be looking at a new PC. I was wondering what you lot would think would work well, without straying too far from the price i'm currently at...

Abit AX8 VIA K8T890 PCI-Express Motherboard ~£60 ex VAT

XFX GeForce 7800GT Extreme Edition 256mb ~£160 ex VAT

Athlon64 Venice 3800+ ~£150 ex VAT

My current spec is in my sig...is it a decent enough performance increase to warrant forking out the £430 (inc VAT) I would spend on this stuff? Was considering the 3800 Dual Core for around an extra £30, and also open to X1800 graphics cards...can get XT's for not much more these days. What do lot you think?

Personaly I would go for an nforce4 mobo DFI if you intend to only keep 1 gcard then get the ultra-d motherboard and also instead of the 7800gt get the 7900gt its around the same price cpu well you could overclock the 3500 and make it faster than the 3800 but if you realy want a new cpu then go for the duel core 3800 its a great cpu for the price

Dual core is the way to go, but if you budget dont spread to that, get yourself a a64 3700, it has 1MB cache and overclocks nicely for just £115ish new

NF4 is the only way to go with skt939 A64's (well ATI latest chip is really good too), both sound investement for any overclocker. I am a big fan of the ASUS A8N SLI Premium as well as the DFI products.

Make sure your PSU is a good one -- TAGAN 580w offer good value for money and great platform for system builds. If you can afford it, get teh FSP700w from EPUK, fully covers you for if/when you upgrade (and want to overclock) an uber CPU (FX55, FX57, FX60, x2 4600 or x2 4800 with SLI)

Look it up, its a nice unit - but the new PC Power & Cooling Silencer is soon to be released, so it'd probably be worth waiting for Phil to get them in

Ah! Thought it might be that but seemed a bit of a random tangent to go on to lol. Currently have a nice 480w Tagan which I was thinking about staying with- figured thatd be enough!
