New Operating System

So guys,

i sit here on my work pc, dreaming of my new rig. And something alarming is ringing in my ears.. WHAT OS? :D

Im thinking of my tried and true vista64, but is this really my best option? Im open to all suggestions, but can they be backed up with a valid reason for me using it?

I mainly will use this pc for gaming, photoshop, dreamweaver and Folding.

Thanks :worship:

Well the only bad thing I would have to say would be drivers, though if you are sure you will find / have the drivers necassary then by all means Vista 64 bit.

On the other hand why not have a Dual OS system that being Vista 32 example, its not that hard to do and you won't be troubled by driver problems.

I'd stick with Vista 64. It's smoth as long as your systems up to it (Ie 4GB ram & a properly clocked core2 chip), it's stable and it's compatible with more games/programs than anything else out there.

Windows 7 may be a viable alternative/upgrade but last time I checked it was still in beta.

Driver issues wont be a problem, i have no old hardware, and all the gear in my new rig will be bang up to date, now the only thing i can really think of is i dont want 32bit, as i would like to utalise all 4 gig of ram

Yea, i had windows 7 for a little while, and by the time i get this rig the RC1 will be available, but is it worth my while having this over vista, as i would like a no worries system :)

A 'no worries' system depends on you really. You've got to set up everything right and it can be done with any OS/hardware config (nearly) as long as somthings not faulty. My 24/7 system is Vista 64 with UAC disabled and not much more tweak wise. It's smooth on the hardware and will sit there for days without crashing.

Vista vs 7 I can't comment on as I've not used the beta. But from reports, if the system is being built after the 7 release you may as well go for that.

The upgarade from 7 rc to the final is said to be tricky.

But if you can do that or just re-install then go with 7. IMHO, its better.

Ham, i also use 64bit with UAC off atm, seems to do the business, think from what ive seen here i will probably stick with it, maybe make up a few custom boot/login screens, customise it a bit, thanks for the advice guys :)
