New Monitor

I currently have a 22" 1920x1080 monitor and was looking for an upgrade. My initial thought was a 27" but when looking around a few IPS ones popped up so I was looking into them and also some 29" ultra wide IPS monitors too.

So is an IPS worth it the extra cost over the standard LED and would a 29" ultra-wide IPS be worth the extra cost over a 27". Because response times are slower on IPS monitors.

I use my monitor for gaming and I watch a lot of movies/shows.

Thanks ;)

IPS is definitely worth the extra as the colours are nicer and the viewing angles are far better. If you're already gaming at 1080 I would maybe wait and get a 1440p monitor if your graphics card can handle it. My personal opinion is that unless you're going multiscreen or your monitor isn't very good then it seems to pointless to go from 1080 to another 1080

I believe upgrade wise people seem to be aiming for 1440p 27" IPS nowadays. So, as with WillSK, I'd say go for that if your GPU can handle the extra res.

The problem mainly with the ultra wide 21:9 2560x1080 screens is that you will find the vast majority of content and games will not fill the entire screen leaving you in essence with a 1920x1080 24" screen, which is no upgrade. Perhaps for graphic design/film editing software that will fill anything and run side by side it would be useful from a productivity angle but in my opinion rather pointless for tv/movies/gaming. Also if a game did support it you would find the HUD would be stretched or positioned a long way from the edge of the screen.

There are rumors of an upcoming Dell 34" 21:9 3440x1440 monitor (U3415W) which changes things slightly because should you only have 16:9 content you are left with a 27" 1440p screen. That could be more appealing.

As of right now it's between the Dell U2713HM and the Asus PB278Q if you want a ~27" 1080p upgrade IMO.

A good 1440P display is expensive, You can get those Korean monitors but that's a huge gamble.
If you want to stay at 1080P then I highly recommend the Asus AH-IPS VN279QLB 27" Widescreen Super-Slim Bezel LED Monitor -

I had it before I upgraded to 1440P and contrary to popular belief I didn't see any ghosting, Input lag and the picture was crystal clear after hours of gaming.

I just felt like a change and a bigger screen is always better, regardless of the resolution being the same. Aren't 1440p going to be considerably dearer than 1080p though?

I plan to get a 2nd gtc 770 with a new monitor so it should handle it fine.

Yeah I saw that on a few sites when browsing through monitors and that one was one of the top ones on the list for a 27".
