New GFX card for H67 mobo

Ok guys,

My current system is a i5 2500k on a P8H67-M Pro Mobo (yes I cnt overclock it but I wanted the HD 3000 gfx for £8 more than the 2500 and it has better resale value). Anyway, I game primarily on the xbox, so I didnt see the need to add a dedicated gpu if I wasn't going to be gaming on the pc. The integrated gfx runs fine - windows aero looks smooth and Iv had no problems atall just internet browsing and doing some light video editing on it.

This summer though, I intend to start doing some gaming on the pc - Starcraft 2, WoW, a few other rpg's and I definitely intend on buying the new Elder Scrolls game when its released later this year. I currently use a 32" HDTV for both my xbox and pc - I run it at a resolution of 1360x768. I have a budget of about 250 because I want the card to last me a few years and to play recent games at an acceptable framerate.

Can anyone suggest a gfx card that would fit my needs nicely? I was thinking about the 570, but is this overkill at my resolution?

1360x768 is a fairly low res as the actual pannel size makes no difference to performance so something like a gtx 460 would be a great choice for the lower end of your options.

It would eat WOW up at that resolution (my rig in my sig handles it 60fps @ 1080p on high settings with 1 or 2 on medium with max view distance and some other bits no problem, lowest ive seen is a slight drop to 55 from mass AOE spell spam in a dungeon the other day) and should handle starcraft 2 pretty well aswell, i cant comment on how it will play skyrim when its out as i havent seen any min/recomended specs for it yet but i cant see it not being able to play it.

next worthy peice/performance step up would be a 6950 and after that a 570.

The 570 might be overkill but it will last you along time and a screen upgrade, like my 8800gt has, still going strong after about 3 years.

Thanks for your response. I did actually think the size of the screen would matter, not just the resolution. I would like to go down the 570 route, but my psu is only a 430W Corsair - what type of psu will I need if I want to run a 570?

a decent 600Watt with 40 amps on the 12v rail (RAILS) would be more than enough.

Something like the corsair TX v2 650 would be spot on if your not to fussed about modular cables http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w...s-85-eff-sli-eps-12v-80-plus-bronze-140mm-fan

If you would like to only have the cables that you need then the corsair HX 650 would be perfect and look alot cleaner from not having a birds nest of cables

I don't exactly know the difference between modular and non modular? Yes I am considering the gtx 560 now too, because it looks as though the 570 is a good £60-100 more than the 560 (250 was really my limit) but it mite not be worth it at my resolution - there's so many different variations of the same card to choose from though I dont know where Id start. I will likely sell my 430W psu on ebay.

EDIT: Looks like the Super Overclock version is hard to come by in the UK - scan sell it but its on pre-order till May. No problem anyway because that is around the time when I will do the upgrade. So that card should run most games no problem at my resolution?
