New Gaming Rig I am Thinking of Building...

Well I think I have come to my senses now, gonna go with Intel as my upgrade, and when I do I can give my dad my old pc.

Want anyone's opinions on this build:

Case: NZXT Tempest 410
CPU: Intel i5 3570k
MB: Asus P8Z77-V LX
Ram: Kingston HyperX Beast 8Gb (2x4Gb) 1600Mhz C9
Graphics: Sapphire HD 7950 3Gb
Cooler + Fans: Cosair H100i + 2x SP120 Quiet Series Fans
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium or Pro (undecided at the moment)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM SATA3 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
SSD: Corsair Force Series 3 120Gb SATA3 6Gb/s
External ODD: LG DP30NB40 8x Slim External DVD-RW

Will my current PSU, XFX PRO550W, power this system or will I need a PSU upgrade?

Much much better mate. You will be very happy with this build.

Just to let you guys know why I upgraded to that AMD cpu was cuz I had this spec before I upgraded to the parts I have now:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 HT 3GHz (socket 478):(
Mobo: OEM one (with locked Bios so couldn't OC it if I wanted to):(
Ram: 2Gb DDR 400MHz (4x512Mb):(
GPU: HD3650 512MB DDR2:(
PSU: can't remember which one I had before :(, but I upgraded to the one I have now :)
Case: a really crappy one which I don't know the make or model of........:(

So in my defense the parts I have now are better than the parts I had before, would you agree or disagree? Opinions Welcome :)

Hey guys, i've got quite an update on my build.

I now got some decent hardware:

CPU - AMD FX-4100 (in process of getting an FX-8370)

Cooler - Corsair H110i GT

MOBO - ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z

Memory - Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB 1600MHz

GPU - ASUS R9 280X TOP 3GB (a bit old I know)

PSU - Corsair CX850M

SSD - Samsung 120GB 850 EVO

HDD - got a few small capacity drive but getting a few 3TB drives (maybe 4TB ones)

Case - NZXT H440 2015 Edition Black/Red

I know I should get off the AMD wagon but I like AMD, I dont know why but I just do.

What I would like to know is, would it be worth buying a ASUS DCU3 Fury GPU? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...ard-strix-r9fury-dc3-4g-gaming-gx-378-as.html
And would it hold back the FX-8370 CPU I plan on buying?

P.S
Sorry for not being on in a long time been really busy.

You dont need to worry about the GPU holding your CPU back lol.

TBH I would suggest you wait a tad longer and upgrade when the next gen cards are release, as the improvements will without a doubt be worthwhile. The 280x is a perfectly capable card to today anyways.

I would have suggested an Intel based rig, however if you arent have problems at the moment, then I dont see why not especially with DX12 on the horizon.

As possibly one of the biggest AMD fans I know, I'd hold off current gen is more than a bit disappointing and I doubt that will be your major bottleneck currently. AM4 round the corner - sort of.

I'd also wait for the next gen cards.

This is why my upgrades take so long...

Hey guys,

Sorry i've not been on in a while but I got a few pics for you, sort of an update.

Also I have OC'd my CPU to 4.4GHz stable (my first time overclocking.)

I also ran several benchmarks, some old and some recent to see how it ran.

Here is what I got:-

Heaven - 37.7 avg / 948 score

Valley - 44.4 avg / 1856 score

AVP dx11 - 116.6 avg

DMC 4 @1680x1050 dx10 - 308.6 avg
This test was a bit weird but I had to run it at 1680x1050 as the dx10 wouldn't let me go higher than 1680x1050 but in dx9 it will let me go to 1920x1080....

DMC 4 @1920x1080 dx9 - 315.7 avg

Lost Planet 2 (Test B.) - 44 avg

Resident Evil 5 - 89.1 avg

Resident Evil 6 - 10,377 score

Tomb Raider (2013) - 69.8 avg

Every benchmark was at max settings (except vsync.)

Cinebench R15 - 319

3D Mark Firestrike (demo from steam) - 5,922

GTA V - 33.1 avg

GTA V Settings (Couldn't run it max unfortunately...)

Resolution - 1920x1080 dx11

P.S
I also changed the TIM on my GPU I have at the moment as I was reaching very close to 90°C, when I playing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Maxed out but now I changed the TIM i'm reaching 81°C.
Oh and my CPU with the H110i GT i'm getting around 37°C idle with 46°C under load with OCCT
The GPU is also a gift from my brother.
