Hi im after some advice on what to get for my new pc that i will use for gaming and multitasking when browsing the web.

i would like to know which one to get out of these Phenom II 965, 955, 1055T or the 1090T

and then what GPU to get 5850, 5870 or the 6950 i know your thinking 6950 its better but i have a budget of around £500 so i might not afford it if i get other stuff more expensive.

components i already have are:

2 x 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz corsair vengance ram

components i am going to get are:

Coolermaster GX 550W PSU - 6x SATA 2x PCI-E 80plus Certified

Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 870 Socket AM3 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard

I will be OC the GPU and CPU.

thanks for your help

Check out toms budget build, if gaming is your main concern I might think about an i3 and overclock the heck out of it, and get a decent gpu.

what i3 cpu model would you recommend and what MB?

and what about the nvidia 480 is that a good card too

yes im in the uk that bundle looks good but it comes with ram i already have and i dont need a cooler so wouldnt i be wasting money buying a bundle

thanks for the help though!

You might contact them and see if you can order it without. We have an Aria guy right here on the Forum. If no on the overclocked bundle, then the components they use could be a good starting point minus the ram. i3 is hyperthreaded and will probably be just as good as an AMD quad in games. Video card is more important there.

thanks for all your help im just getting so much more confused now over everything i was originally going to get a

Phenom II x6 109T then OC to around 3.8 or 4 if i can reach it.

Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3

antec H20 620 cooler as mines good but loud

Gigabyte GTX 480 Rev1 1536MB GDDR5

Coolermaster GX 550W PSU - 6x SATA 2x PCI-E 80plus Certified

this would cost me £517 which is what i have around to spend on these components.

would this be a good set up.

so the entire pc set up would be

Phenom II x6 109T then OC to around 3.8 or 4 if i can reach it.

Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3

antec H20 620 cooler as mines good but loud

Gigabyte GTX 480 Rev1 1536MB GDDR5

Coolermaster GX 550W PSU - 6x SATA 2x PCI-E 80plus Certified

8GB 2 x 4GB Corsair vengeance RAM

Would that power supply be enough for this?

If your seriously considering a gtx 480 you will probably need a bigger PSU. But now, if you wanted a gtx 560 overclocked, or a gtx 570 you should be ok with a good 550 watt, but I would recommend a 700 or 750 incase you want to upgrade to sli. An overclocked 560 or 570 will give you better performance, with less heat, and less power draw. The 480 is overpriced rubbish imo.

Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3

antec H20 620 cooler as mines good but loud

XFX HD 5870 1GB GDDR5

Arctic Power Pro 750W Modular 14cm Fan PSU - 4x PCI-E 8x SATA

8GB 2 x 4GB Corsair vengeance RAM

all this for £492.56 which is just on my budget is this now a good set up

Is that PSU good and why does the MB i selected have another PCIex16 slot but not support crossfire.

Second question will my 1600Mhz RAM work on that MB and give me 1600Mhz.

Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by multitasking but is there a reason you wanted a 6 core CPU? Its just that with that CPU and mobo with the prices I could find your about £50 off of a 2500K with a P67 mobo and the diffrence between the 2500K and 1090T is suppose to be quite a gap with regards to gaming. 50 quids 50 quid though. The P67 boards also support Crossfire and SLI.

If you want to stick with AMD though could you not stretch to one of these?

The prices have dropped since these reviews and they both support CF and 1600MHz memory. Its just that the mobo you selected fills me with unease

Hope this helps

May i ask why it does all the reviews i have read say it is good.

And I'm not saying it isn't good but it doesn't support crossfire which I tend to think is one of the best ways to upgrade later and it doesn't say that supports 1600MHz memory. I find strange that it would support 1866 and not 1600 but I personally just like to have all the boxes checked before I make a purchase.

If your happy with everything the way it is though then go for it. Your the only person that needs to be satisfied with your rig.

all the reviews give it good marks and apparently there is a firmware mod that alows you to use crossfire

but i never like crossfire i can afford to upgrade more than once every 3 year and then crossfiring is hard cause those card arnt made then.

but thanks for all your help i finalized that now
