New build: Your Opinions

Hello everyone, I am thinking of building a new computer, and I am wondering about what parts I should pick out. My budget is anything less than £850. This is the list I have currently devised:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i
Motherboard: MSI Z87M Gaming Micro ATX
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB ( 2 x 4GB ) DDR3-1866
Storage 1: Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB SSD
Storage 2: WD Caviar Black 1TB HDD
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 770
Case: Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 Micro ATX
Power Supply: Corsair RM 650W 80+ Gold Certified

My questions are:
  • Have I made a stupid mistake?
  • Are some parts not compatible?
  • What are your general opinions on this build?

For using the word bottlenecking you almost need a slap with a wet fish.

The GPU is a good one but if the rig is for gaming you need to spend more money on the GPU. Putting a H100i on a 4670K for exmple on that budget makes no sense when youve only bought a 750 Ti

Depending on the games you play and price, may want to look into a 280x. If its cheaper then get the 280x because the 770 is so close to it in performance. If the price is the same get the card that does better in the games you play.

Everything else looks good and its a pretty solid build for that budget. Though i am assuming you don't need a keyboard/mouse/or windows which is why its quite a higher end build on this budget.

Thanks for the advice. I will certainly look into the 280X, if it will give me better performance. Yeah, I don't really need new peripherals at the moment. Is the 280X worth it for mantle, or will the new DX blow it away?

Mantle so far has proven it does give you much better performance vs DX11 but as for Mantle vs DX12 no one knows. DX12 just started going into R&D and may only be available for Windows 8/8.1 or even Windows 9. No one knows anything about it yet. Same with OpenGL also.. next to nothing is known except for both are trying to achieve what AMD has done with Mantle.
