New build will it work?

Secrets

Hi guys my mates building a new PC and asked to see whether these components will work together, I'm very sure they will however it's nice to have the extra support, can you run a check and see and also recommend and changes if you see anything you don't like?

The PC will also have an ATI Radeon HD 5830 courtesy of me.

Cheers lads

Yes, this will all work just fine but the board may need a bios update as it was designed for Sandy Bridge, but the CPU is an Ivy bridge.

Also, why z68 without an overclockable processor?
And why would he be buying an outdated board like that at all. Any reason he's not going Haswell?

hey post what items your listing as well as a link some folks browse while on phones and having to click links is rather tiresome. Maybe hyper link them like this

We're just looking at getting him a decent spec build for bf3 and upcoming battlefield 4, he will be having my old ATI Radeon HD 5830 which plays BF3 on high settings with no issues so no need to splash out.

We just need a motherboard, cpu, some RAM and a PSU as the one we have at the mo doesn't have twin x6 gfx power connecters and the above one does and is a reasonable value.

I chose all these components but I wanted to check before hand.

I can swap out the board to avoid having to update the bios as I want it to be perfect for him, can anyone recommend a good board for the Ivy Bridge CPU's I've not dealt with MB's for ages.

Cheers for the help guys much appreciated.

The MSI Z77-G45 is great for the price. If he wants to spend more, the GD55, GD65 and mPower are also good choices.

What cooler will he be using? May be worth looking into some shorter RAM to avoid potential problems with that.

Thanks I'll have a look at switch the boards about.

We'll I had the standard large intel i7 cooler on mine with the vengeance ram and it caused no issue, he'll be using a standard cooler for now. Also I upgraded to the evo 212 cooler recently and it's still not an issue infact it pulls heat from the RAM which is even better.

True - but for quite a lot of the bigger options the Vengeance won't fit, and for what it's worth, you may as well get the LP.
Probably won't matter a great deal, but you can at least be sure you won't run into problems.

afaik xfx isn't that great with support, for that money you can get a corsair PSU of the same wattage, z68 board with an IB cpu which isn't even unlocked? get an h77 board. ram and cpu are alright. the GPU you will need to upgrade.

You're late to the party mate ;)

Z77-G45 and Low Profile RAM get my vote.
Also the PSU that Saltire linked will be more than enough :)

Maybe he wants to upgrade to another CPU in the future. And let's be honest, a board like the G45 doesn't exactly break the bank :)

upgrade to what? a 3570k? not really worth buying an overspec'd mainboard for a socket that won't be used by new cpus anyways. why no haswell build btw?

Or an i7 if he decides he wants to do editing or when games start using more cores. I do agree, but honestly there's nothing wrong with buying something that has a few features that you don't need. Beats spending money on something that doesn't have features that you do need.

I also asked why he didn't go Haswell but he hasn't replied to that yet... Maybe he will now :)

I don't even know what haswell is.

It's the newest range of Intel CPUs. Intel Core iX 4xxx. They use the new socket 1150 motherboards with Z87, H87, B85 and Q87 chipsets.

Edit; Maybe it would be easier if you gave us a budget, what the use for the computer is going to be, if he wants to overclock and what components he needs. We could spec you something better :)
