New build suggestions

I have a 670 FTW myself and I love it so I'm definitely not fanboying :p

But when it comes down to price/performance ratio AMD is just the better choice if you use it purely for gaming imo. And tbf, Quake and Call of Duty 4 are not really demanding games ;)

they aren't demanding games, that is right. that's why it should run those games properly, which it doesn't. artifacting all over the place. and in bc2 which isn't demanding either it runs at 35 fps on min settings. their drivers are badly f**ked

So you are saying amd is not for gaming? Are you trying to troll? Seriously you struggled with a 7950 on some of the easiest games to run? Etheir you don't know what drivers are(not that you would really need them for those games) or you honestly just don't like amd.

mate i love AMD, i bought the 7950 to support them. i made like 3 threads already, i tried to fix it for 6 weeks and not even the AMD support had any clue on how to fix it. i ain't retarded.
/edit
apologies for that little rant, i just had 6 weeks of torture with that card and so i am easily startled when people treat me like a retard. already edited the post.

This thread was meant to gather opinions for a new build I'm getting ready for, not so members could argue with each other over what is better. Let's remain civil and constructive here please. I value everyone's opinions but this is the wrong way to go about it guys.

i gave my opinion. AMD depends on what games you want to play, if you are only into new stuff, go for it. great value. but if you want to play older games the drivers are rubbish.

Be careful with the 7870 XT. Whilst when pushed it can be as fast as a 7950 it doesn't have the same cooler and they can run awfully hot.

A friend of mine bought one used and sold it on a few days later. It would hit high 80s on the cooler it had.

You're better off going for a 7950 IMO. Whilst the 7870 XT may be a cut down 7950 it's not as good.

The case is the cheapest I can find that has the features I want. If I decide to go with a 7950, this will have to be the case.

The case isn't overly important, just needs to support what's going into the system within a reasonable price range. The NZXT Tempest 410 has everything I want and need for a very reasonable price. Only thing I don't like about the case is the HDD cages facing forward. Other than that, it's perfect for the price.
