I was happy with my rig tbh till TTL said WTF!! (That was at some stupid fans i had on the side of my GFX card)

so i think i need to upgrade my motherboard CPU and PSU cause TTL is sending me 8gb mushkin 2000 mhz ram, Scythe Susanoo cpu cooler and a Xigmatek Asgard Midi Tower Case... so my current specs are

460 GTX 1GB inno oc to 749mhz

700w psu ezcool

amd phenom II 945 oc to 3.6ghz

asrock m3a UCC

value DDR3 1600 mhz ram

ocz vertex 2 60gb SSD

2x 500 gb HD

JeanTech Unicorn V3 ATX Case

2x LG 22inch monitors

I dont have alot of money cause ive just been suspended from work :S cant say why.... Yet ( i did work part time at maplin )

maybe scrape together £200 and what ever i can get for selling old parts (which wont be alot)

well you have the case, ram and cooler then

psu = corsair https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Com...sfire+Compliant+Power+Supply+?productId=43905

cpu = http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Comp...t+LGA1155+Processor+-+Retail+?productId=44715

motherboard = https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Com...DDR3+PCI-Express+Motherboard+?productId=44075

total of £205 probably get it cheaper if you looked around

possible upgrade to a 2600k and sli 460s pretty decent imho be warned the motherboard is slightly smaller than atx size and isnt too good for overclocking

wow thanks for the reply my mate has a 2600k and hes getting 5ghz oc would love to save up for one of them... would this g620 be better than a 1100t ?

so what your saying is go for the cheap cpu then i can upgrade to the 2600k later right... sounds like a plan, but it's not going to be faster than my phenom ive have atm though right cause ive got that running at 3.6ghz and this one is 2.6ghz ? but for the money its looks really good..

You can't directly compare those chips on speed because they are not the same but the 1100T is a lot better

the thing is ive always had amd im a bit weary of changing sides tbh

even as a AMD fan boy i was using a intel + nvidia system and now im using a i3 netbook why??? intel are just so much better now hopefully bull dozer will sort stuff out but im not so sure anymore

Thanks TTL for the Scythe Susanoo and 8GB of Mushkin Ridgeback the prize is wiked

least you cant see my crap mb now lol i know the cables are a mess but there are no cable management holes in my case so theres not much i can do but the cooler and the ram are wiked

and the door closes

and cause my systems is not very good i can have it on silent and its keeping my cpu at 26c

What is that?

Is that even legal?

I am scared of getting a Noctua N14 because of its size and you have that monster thing

You should look here if you want to compare CPU speeds. According to Tom's listing, the Intel G620 2.60Hz is in a lower bracket than your current Phenom. It might not really be worth that upgrade.

As to the PSU you should check out the online power supply calculator cause maybe you PSU is more than enough.

If you don't need the PSU you might be able to scrape for Intel 2500 K and an average motherboard.

Hi,

You know, I don't think you've got too bad a system there. The Phenom II 945 with a GTX 460 sound like a nicely balanced system. Now that it's all running cool and quiet in a pretty case...well, I actually quite like it

Of course it's not the power-house of some of the newer Intel builds, but it shouldn't be too shabby surely?

As your upgrade budget is fairly modest and, in my view, you're at the stage where your next upgrade will be a big one, I'd be inclined to save your money for the moment. Personally I'd be inclined to use that £200 as the start of an upgrade fund and, once it's grown a little, you can pick a good motherboard, CPU and RAM combo as the heart of your new build. With new toys due from AMD, Intel and nVidia over the next few months, waiting seems the prudent option.

Ruthless Villains suggestion of a step-by-step upgrade with initially a lower-spec CPU isn't a bad one, and certainly opens up your upgrade path nicely, but I think you might end up with a slower interim system and a higher spend overall. Though likely you can sell some of your parts to recoup a little money as you change things. This method does spread you spend a little better of course, which might work better for you.

My understanding is that your current CPU is a fairly decent one, so if you must upgrade, adding a better GPU would be your most effective spend now - subject to your PSU being up to the job of course. Just going to a 570 from your 460 would give you a marked boost in gaming and you might be able to sell your 460 as it's still a good card. I recommend you check out card comparisons to understand what you'd be getting. Be ware that GPUs like the 570 really like to be backed up by a powerful CPU. My 570 was great on my Q6600 @ 3.6 but truely shone on my 2500k!

With that decent cooler you might have some more room to overclock your CPU some more for an added free boost...

You have options my friend, but in my view you rig isn't so old it HAS to be upgraded just yet

Pretty much this

But ofcourse who doesn't like to get new hardware? So it depends

I don't need a FullHD TV but i got one anyways... i don't need an iPhone... i still bought one

Scoob has given some excellent advice there. If you wait until the next year you will have many more options and the prices of older hardware will have decreased by then.

Indeed the line between need and want can be near invisible sometimes a lot of the time. However, in the OP's case he is a little limited on funds at the moment so I think we need to ensure that line in clearly defined.

Of course you NEED fullHD lollipop - that's just silly talk!

We all love our tech and doubtless we all spend a little too much on it sometimes. However, for the time being, I'd still suggest the OP sit tight for a little while longer *

Cheers,

Scoob.

* Be aware that I often don't stick to this advice myself, but I am lucky enough to be able to afford little luxuries like this due to being generally pretty tight...erm, careful

Thanks for all your replys

yeh the bd looks like it's going to keep up with the 2600k.. So it would be good to wait for that
smile.gif
I think I might take that advice

No problem. If BD does indeed exchange blows with a 2600k and overclocks near as well and has AMD traditionally slightly lower price-point, it's gonna make one hell of a nice build

Do remember to keep us posted when you start buying stuff!
