I've never really used SATA as a connection, always been using IDE. Now I have switched over, I can't in istall an OS. I go to install WinVISTA x64 and it formatted the drive fine. I go next and it says that the system volume couldnt be found or something. The computer then restarts. I have no other HDD with an OS on and manual mentions about RAID disk drivers. XP only will allow to Floppy.

My mobo is ASUS P5QPRO and HDD is 500GB Samsung I think.

Anyone help on how to install a OS on this SATA drive? Seems to be a bit on the tricky side for a simple installation.

Also does it matter what SATA number it's in?

Any specific settings in bios to change?

Please help

Thank you :).

Make sure the SATA cable is plugged into one of the ports connected to the ICH10 controler, not the extra one taced on. They are normaly different colours (I.E. 6 red on the ICH, 2 white on the extra).

Thanks for the reply, yeah it's in the correct place, the Windows install detected it anyways. Any idea of getting some Vista RAID drivers on a USB stick without Vista?

EDIT:

I have the drivers now, now I am encountering System volume validation :(...

Apparently the problem is USB keys, will try some fixes, can't be ass'd for any coding tbh :P

So, let me get this straight. You're trying to install RAID using Vista as your OS?

You don't need any drivers for Vista. Have you set the motherboard up in RAID? By pressing Ctrl + I at boot up (keep pressing it until you enter the Intel Storage Matrix) and then set up RAID through there. Then, go back to your BIOS and make sure your hard drives (or anything on the ICH10) are set up in RAID and you should be ready to go.

Hope this helped.

Just got Windows Vista on there now, my method seemed to of worked.

Place the USB below the HDD boot priority,

Nah the things you mentioned above were already done mate, just Windows Vista install was throwing a woblly at me. I needed to install drivers etc...

Works now

Thanks for the help everyone.
