Need help!!!

Ive just finshed my pc build:

Asus p5k premium

intel q6600

xfx 8800gt XXX

750W psu

asus drw-1814blt (dvd)

ive plugged everything in but when i power up it says primary slave drive is not atapi compatible. Is that my dvd drive or my hard drive. My hard drive is ide.

do i need to purchase a new drive???

not getting that message anymore. but when i tell it to boot from the windows disk it only ever gets up to showing the blue screen with windows setup in the corner and just sits there.

I`ll take a wild stab in the dark that u have u`r master IDE hard drive on the same ribbon as ur IDE DVD slave ?

no the dvd drive is plugged into a sata port.

i think my problem was that the xp disk my dad gave me was a dell oem one so im thinking that if the comp is not a dell it wont install. Im getting xp of my friend so ill get back to u on my results
