Help Me To Complete My System

War Machine

Hello all,

I'm after some advice cause i have never good luck in completing my themed system i always buy parts and then like 3-6 months end up changing cause i'm not happy with them, I'm kinda fed up bye doing stuff this way so this time i want to do this ONCE & ONCE only.

The system is going to be a combo of Black, Grey an or Gunmetal grey & silver.

So here's what i'm after i need memory & fans for this system, with the fans should i go after fully grey fans but the problem with that is Noctua doesn't make a NF-F12 in the Redux another choice could be those new NZXT Aer F & P i was hoping that TTL may have done a review of them but also the other problem is they only come with a 2 year warranty or i could buy the Corsair ML120 Pro but i'm having a hard time trying to justify the price of those if anyone else can think of any other fans that would fit into what i'm doing just name them.

Next thing is memory this is my second biggest problem the range is so limited on Silver/Black memory kits there is only 3 i can think up off the top of my head.
1. Corsair Dom Plats
2.G-Skill Trident Z problem with these is they don't make 4x4GB kits only start at 4x8GB
3.Crucial Ballistix Sports Series kinda really don't like these too low profile compare to the other 2.

I'm kinda ripping my hair out over this cause i just want this system to be perfect for me not just to like it for only 3-6 months but for years & years.

Nice rig.

You have Corsair ML120 duo pack. They are less expensive, and just don't have rubber corners as single version but performance is the same. Color is black/white

You can add more Vardars. They are great fans, and black/grey.

I don't know many gray fans except redux. Quality black fans for a good price are Fractal Venturi.

For RAM i would go with Dominator.

Thanks but it's still a work in progress there's even more i want to change.

I already own some Fractal Venturi & I also own some EK Vardars and i have to agree with TTL now they're noisy as heck doesn't matter what setting i change in the BIOS i just can't make them quiet, The problem is with those Corsair ML120 there Black/White.

I do like those NZXT fans but the warranty length is kind of a turn off i like them cause of the grey ring.

I'm trying to add some colour but not to over do it.

I was talking to a guy at a computer shop today i'm not sure if this is correct but he told me since i'm planning over filling the whole 8 memory dimm slots he said i would be better off getting the 2666MHz over the 3000MHz but like i said i'm not sure.

bequiet! fans are very quiet, and they are all black. You can check them.

If you can afford it, go with the fastest memory you can. He is saying that because some CPUs struggle with more memory sticks and overclocking bla, bla, bla... If you win silicon lottery you will utilize that memory speed.

Don't trust guys at computer stores. I know plenty of them and trust me they have no clue about hardware. They are sales men. They usually recommend parts that shop has best margins on. Asking around forums, and then deciding for yourself is the best thing you can do.

Is there any reason as to why you've not considered a Ryzen CPU and Motherboard?
With the money you save you could put it towards other things
As to the ram the 6 series CPU's can handle the higher speeds a bit better so it might do 3000 if you still go with Intel

The reason why i haven't considered Ryzen is cause i already own the motherboard, when i brought the motherboard i wanted an E-ATX motherboard and AMD didn't have any E-ATX motherboards.

Maybe that was a stupid reason i don't know.

Fan wise i don't want just an all black fans i'm looking for black/grey or gunmetal grey fans that's why i landed on those NZXT or Corsair fans, Not looking to really mod the fans because i would never be happy with the finished job cause i'm very OCD when it comes to things like that.

Thanks Avet & Excalabur

I just bought NZXT Aer RGB 140's and they aren't the quiestest at mid to high speeds but they are fine if you step them down a bit and when the lights aren't going they look greyish with black so might? suit you
Also you might want to consider on selling the M/B and going after a Ryzen system and still save money even if you take a small hit selling your current board and truth be told you might even be able to exchange it with your supplier if it's PCCG or PLE they might be happy to work something out with you.

I brought the motherboard from ebay like 3-5 months ago so i can't really return it and plus i have already open it.

The issue i have with Ryzen is there is no E-ATX motherboards atm until TR comes out plus if i put a ATX size motherboard into that CaseLabs case it's going to play heck with my OCD

In the past i have own motherboard from every company expect for EVGA so i thought at the time what the heck i brought it at the time when i brought it every X99 motherboard i look at none of them were going to work expect for this one & the ASUS X99 WS which was way out of my price range.

I feel now i'm just too deep in with Intel atm but i can say now my next build will be a AMD TR motherboard.

Some good info there about the fans was hoping to find someone who owns them BTW i wouldn't be buying the RGB version i'm looking at the non RGB's just like the Corsair ML ones.

Thanks again Excalabur

No worries glad I could help if you are thinking TR then maybe just hold off as they are supposedly launching August and just sell your board on Ebay it's still new since you don't have a cpu for it otherwise you'll be paying twice for Intel now and the TR soon just my thoughts anyway

Some shops have already reduce pricing for Socket 2011-3 CPU's originally i was going to get the 6800K but as of now the 6850K is within my price range i will be saving about $240.00 on the 6850K and just though it was a no brainier.

My next system after this one will be TR as long as AMD is still making TR or what ever the next name AMD picks next time.

I think i understand what you're saying.
