Hey. =)

I've tried to get my I7 970 to run stable 4.0 GHz with no luck at all..

no matter what I set the volt on, It's freezes it in prime95 after a short time, but do the Intelburn test fine.

I can use the onboard profil in bios (I7 970 Crazy.. or something) that put it to 3.6 GHZ auto, that works fine in prime95...

I am use'ing a S.1366 Asus Rampage 3 black E. I7 970 3.2Ghz. 12GB (3x4gb) Corsair Vengeance 1600c9

the CPU is watercooled

I am new to this Overclocking, so I could really need some help,

Hope someone will take the time to help me, maby point me in the right direction =)

Thanks

Have the same problem.Have my latest i7-970 under water,but i need an obscene amount of volts to have 4.0 ghz oc.

I think they(intel) are releasing newer i7-970 with small oc options.First releases did 4.2-4.4ghz at better(lower) volts.

The funny thing is, if I run the (I7 970 crazy -3.6GHz) from the bios, and look at CPU-z it uses only 1,272 volts so Why cant it run 4.0 with 1.35+ volts :oP

I'm sure your missing something mate. It's not all about Vcore. Post your settings up so we can have a better look.

I agree with sie.

From what I've seen on the local forums here in AU most have been getting 4.3-4.6 prime 24hr stable with i7-970s. You'd both have to be really unlucky not to be able to hit 4 ghz at reasonable volts.

Think there is a reason for it.Newly released i7-980 is made with the better chips,and i7-970 with only mediocre ones.When i7-970 was releases they were clocking very good,like 4.2-4.6ghz with ease.

You might be right about intel doing some level of binning but those results are all based off post 990X release chips which should of been the newer (binned) batches.
