Need help figuring out why I can't play COD 4

So I installed COD 4 today and everything went swell in the installation except when I got to the DirectX part. It said that the software I was installing has not passed the windows logo testing and will not be installed.

So I said ok whatever, I have DX9.0c anyway. But every time I try to play the game what happens is the game will startup, and then minimize itself to my desktop kind of like if i had alt-tabbed. I'm not sure whether or not it is related to this failed installation of DX but I cannot find out what to do. I have the latest video drivers and some new forceware drivers but nothing has helped.

Do you guys have any ideas as to what I need to do in order for the game to stop minimizing itself? I played the demo just fine but for some reason this crap keeps happening :crazy:

What DX is it trying to install? Can you just install anyway? or download a seperate copy and install that, meaning cod wont try?

Or maybe something in the command line could stop it minimising.

I have downloaded the game itself it just screwed up when tryin to install dx. I believe its just DX 9.0c. I haven't looked around at anything to put in the command line but I will look

I'm also reinstalling service pack 2 to see if it helps at all

Hmm, try installing 9.0c again, or an older version then letting cod update it.

Remove cod4 and reinstall...

I had this problem with BF2 when I downloaded it using EA link. I had to unistall the game, download it again then re-install it.

EA said it was Something about an error during the original the download, maybe the same thing has happened to you with CoD4

ill post a couple of suggestions and hope i can help !!

if u downloaded the game from the internet (torrent or links) plz mention that for me ! if u bought the game from a local store try contacting the support team !! now telling me from where and how u downloaded will help somewhere so hope it works out !!

anyways if downloaded by links (alot of them uploaded on the damn rapidshare) wel u have to download via torrent ! if u dont know how ill gladly help u out if u do try to download th torrent via a private website (private tracker , torrents , servers .....etc) which means faster download speeds and of course making sure that ur version of game is gd to go and tested by a couple of ppl link often tend to suck more and alot slower in the download process so i reccomend u download via torrent

now what u can do is ....

1-try unistaling the game , restart the computer , run a registry cleaner to make sure its all gone and install back again !

2-if ur version of game runs on a crack well try lookin for a new crack and if u want a proper one ill look it out for u !!

3-try updating ur drivers ! (if u havnt done that already)

but from where i see it ur problem is from ur copy of game or the crack
