Need help choosing a CPU and mobo

I'm looking at switching from my AMD Phenom II X6 1035T to an Intel CPU. I have no idea which one to pick or which motherboard. I have a budget of about $275 (CAD) for the CPU and $275 - $300 (CAD) for the motherboard. My computer is used for gaming, graphic art, 3D modeling and video. So I need something that can handle the stress I'll be putting it through.

I don't really know how expensive PC parts are up there in Canada, but for your max budget you should be able to pick up an MSI GD65 Gaming + 4770k and I'd seriously recommend you to toss in a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (or a better cooler as an upgrade in the not-too-distant future).

I don't have the budget for A 4770k, and I already have an after market cooler.

For the CPU, either the Intel i7-4770k or Intel i5-4670k are what to look at. The former by the sounds of it is outside your budget, so the i5-4670k is probably the best bet. ($244)

For the board, something like this would do nicely. ($144)

Tom has a review of the board here:

I would love the 4770K but unfortunately it's not in my budget. The 4670K is within budget and that motherboard is definitely in my budget. Thanks for the help, really appreciate it.

Erhm yeah, but you said you have a budget of $275 for the CPU + $300 for the motherboard? That's $575 total:

575 - 340 (4770k) = $235
Means you have 235 left for a motherboard, the GD65 Gaming costs 200. Or you could get the cheaper motherboard that Zoot mentioned and save some money.

More than sufficient! If you have any more questions, don't be afraid to ask them and enjoy your new hardware :)
