Need Advice. Ryzen or Intel?

Greetings to all.

I am in the process of making a "Holodeck" of sorts. A medium empty room meant for only a Oculus Rift, four sensors and a small computer running it.

When my friend offered me his never opened Fractal Design Node 202 for $50CDN......I couldn't say no. So this will be the case for my VR build. Here is what I am thinking.

MSI Gaming X 1070 8GB Video Card ( a spare I have )
16GB of G.Skill 3000MHz DDR4 RGB ram 2x8GB Kit ( spare )
Corsair SF600 PSU ( ordered )
2 x Black Cougar Vortex 120MM fans for the GPU section ( ordered )
Samsung EVO 256GB M.2 Drive for the OS ( spare )
Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD for the games ( spare )
Cryorig C7 ( ordered along with AM4 kit just in case )

Now I admit.....I love Intel more than AMD. However my friend said to give the new Ryzen AMD chips a try this time around.

The question is.....should I? Is Intel better for VR or is Ryzen the way to go?

Also what motherboard should I get? The Asrock B350 looks more than capable for what I want.....but should I get the X370 version instead? Heat is a concern with my Node 202 and I do not plan to do any overclocking....and I hear that there are some heat concerns with the Asrock X370 VRM Coolers. I looked at the Gigabyte mitx boards but they have really bad PSU placements.

OR.....

Should I grab another i5 7600K and then get a Asus Strix Z270 itx....

Choices, choices......great to have them but hard to make a choice.

Any POLITE help would be much appreciate.

There is no difference between any cpu for VR it's all gpu but if you want to save some money and still have some horsepower then buy Ryzen as for the board I'd say either an ASUS PRIME B350M-A AM4 mATX or MSI B350M MORTAR ARCTIC AM4 mATX

There really isn't an answer that can be backed up with facts.
The only VR testing I've seen was done with Ryzen 7 vs a 7700k. And the GPU was the limiting factor. You'd have to do much more research to find out between a Ryzen 1600 vs an i5 7600k

Thanks. Unfortunately the case is mitx so I am sad that there is currently no Asus mitx AM4 board as of yet. But at least you pointed me out to a B350 chipset. Thanks.

I'll check out the video.

The only ITX board worth having is the Asrock Fatal1ty.

Upon further research it seems that the Asrock x370/B350 boards have a HUGE issue with the VRM cooling....it may be a good idea to wait.

Any anyone confirm this issue if they have these boards?

Yeah I am seeing a lot of issues with the mitx Ryzen boards......I may just stick with tried and true Intel for this one. Perhaps a Strix mitx Asus board and another i5 7600 series.

Apparently the VRM temps are reported incorrectly. The boards are fine.

If you aren't going to overclock the snot out of the chip then heat won't be an issue, since VR relies on GPU just leave the CPU at stock and undervolt it and it will all run nice and cool

After careful consideration I have decided to forego the AMD platform and grab an Asus H270i Strix mITX for its features and far better stability. Also grabbing either a i5 7500 non K or a i5 7600K.

Thanks to all that chimed in. It is much appreciated.

Well the way I see it is that its a couple hundred cheaper to go Intel. Plus the added features that the AM4 boards simply dont have.

Dual M.2 x4 slots for one - From the specs on the AM4 boards they only have one x2 M.2 slot. :( No idea why.

More USB3.x Ports - a must for my Oculus Rift and its 4 sensors

Better Brand - Asus is far better than Asrock/Gigabyte from my experiences.....and yes I know Asrock is a division of Asus.

Better Cooling - self-explanatory.

Better BIOS
