need advice on a budget cpu for a friend

hi guys

basically a friend of my brothers wants a new pc. so i go ahead and price him on up on aria ( i3 2100 8 gb ram 6850 gpu etc ) then today a kid in my school says its a pos and a 6 core bulldozer would be better for same price . so pretty much which is better as a budget cpu with upgradability once my brothers mate gets some more cash together, i3 2100 or an amd fx 6100? no fanboy arguements please i just want an honest opinion. cheers guys

i3 IMO and that's what I've recommended to people for games. Most games can't make use of 6 cores and the i3 performs better in most game benchmarks. Also, you get the option to upgrade to Ivy Bridge later down the road if you pair that i3 with a gen3 z68 board.

I reckon a 955 BE or something similar. They are dirt, dirt cheap, can OC them to get a bit more out of them and outperform a 2100 in a lot of benchmarks.

i tried saying that to him about the upgradeability and sweet fa games using more than 4 cores properly but him being his normal arrogant self wouldnt listen. turns out this boys dad is building my brothers mates new pc so i guess hes going with the amd :/ ah well thanks for the help guys

i <3 my lil i3 just need the money for a 2500k then this i3 can go in a htpc
