Is this for storage, or a boot drive?
If storage, what kind of things are we thinking? - anything which needs higher than average throughput?

If it is just storage then I would suggest the Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB, the 2TB is only like £10 more than the 1TB so is well worth it, if it is for boot then I would suggest getting an SSD and a cheaper storage drive

WD Caviar Black and Caviar Blue have more cache than the Spinpoints but either are great drives imo. Caviar Blue is a little cheaper than the black and there's a minimal performance difference if you want to save yourself a few bucks 
A lot of people are using Seagate drives nowadays and seem to be fine with them but I'm personally not a fan...

The Samsung and Seagates are actually the same drive just with different branding.
I've personally had 3 Spinpoint F3s die on my within a year, which kind of puts me off Seagate/Samsung.
Recently though, I've been using 2.5 inch drive as I find them quieter, and easier to mount than 3.5 inch drives if you have to put one behind a motherboard tray or at the side of the optical bays or similar.

Well Western Digital are known to be more reliable and the Caviar Green is the same price so I say go for that

Ive had my WD caviar green for storage for years and love it. It gets my vote
