Have had this on the go for a about a month now, but figured I would make sure it's going to get finished before I posted it here..

The long and the short before I go into all of the log pics..

My friend in the U.S donated me some parts. This included this.

A sponsor with Specialtech, and some time this week the Fenix will take flight.

Well my bottom will stop fluttering when the mobo and GPU arrive safely from the U.S.A.

They're incredibly well packed, but I'm known for being unlucky so it's been a very stressful week lol.

Good bit is I was going to POV logo the 295, but I managed to bag a full set of EVGA co op FTW decals and the FTW bios.

Which will fit in with the board far better.

It's only a small cooler going on the board tbh. It will be running a donated Core 2 Duo E4500, known for a pish easy 3ghz with tiny voltage increases.

That coupled with 1333 DDR3 (instead of the 1066 the board would have used in 2009) and a 295 and it should be plenty quick enough to run any game.

What did come as a surprise was just how those 295s perform. It easily pushed its way past my 470, even with the 470 @ 755mhz and even made a mockery of the 480 when being ran in DX9 and 10.1.

I would strongly imagine that's down to Nvidia spending serious time on their drivers what with the launch of the 590 and all.

I do have more ram cooling on way C/O specialtech, so it should look good and over the top
biggrin.gif

Ed. And the ram coolers are no taller than the original Dominators tbh. They look it due to the way they're proportioned (bottom plate is quite small then the tall fins). Where as the Corsairs used to use a much larger bottom (ooer) and shorter fins. The overall height isn't far off.

Cheers.

This isn't so great lol.

Those filthy sods.

I did some poking and it seems the next thing to happen will be "Awaiting Customs Charges" before I get a letter slapping me with a fee. Even though the item is a gift (and it is, a 295 and a 790i) we insured it and valued it at $200 just incase anything got broken.

I worked it out earlier, and with Parcel Farce's "HANDLING FEE" of £13.50 I'm looking at a bill of £50 or more.

Rotten gits. It's not just that, I'll have to wait three days for the sodding letter to arrive

Cheers mush. I'm trying to contain my excitement because I'm a cynical sod and things usually always go pear shaped haha.

The EVGA decal set was mailed out today but not important for now, and I'm waiting on the 120 green cable ties to arrive
laugh.gif

I can, in the very least, put my mind at ease tomorrow though. What's cool is that the guy who sent over my 295 bought an EVGA one and it's coming tomorrow lol.

It works.

boarddone.jpg

Though ultimately a load of old crap the board is damn pretty. Here is a teaser. It's far from complete in this pic and I haven't taken any since as I am setting up software, overclocking and benchmarking ETC.

teaseyweasey.jpg

Hard to believe it cost £246 really. And I have more goodies to go as my sponsor stuff from Specialtech shipped out today, as did the graphics for the 295
biggrin.gif

Me too ! but it's !*!*%*!* AWFUL lmao.

I've got the E4500 to 3ghz and it's stable as a rock... However, the board won't disable speedstep lol. So if I run Prime or Orthos it bombs out lol.

Vantage went through well, though the CPU was a bottleneck (as I suspected it would be) but I still managed to better the 3d score of my 470 in my 950 rig
biggrin.gif

Installing Dirt 3 now and will bench it shortly
smile.gif

Edit. So I managed to turn off speedstep. I'd already disabled the actual speedstep but the board has something else where the OS can downclock and lower the voltage. That's why it was all skew whiffy.

Just ran Dirt 3 benchmark with everything maxed and 8XFSAA and got a min of 32 FPS and an average of 65 fps. Gotta love those SLI micro burps lol.
