My new rig

I have been upgrading my old rig over the past few weeks, but it's got to the point now that the only thing left from the old one is the SATA cables and the OS. :)

Anyways, here's the specs of my new rig:

  • Mobo: Asus P5Q
  • CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9550 with AC Freezer Pro HSF
  • GPU: Inno3D GTX280
  • Mem: Corsair Dominator PC2-8500 4GB kit
  • HD's: 2x Seagate Barracuda 500Gb SATA-II in Raid0 array
  • PSU: Coolermaster Silent Pro M 700w Modular
  • DVD: Asus 20x DVD-RW DL Lightscribe
  • OS: Vista Ultimate 64
I have housed the rig in a new case and wanted to go back on air for a while as I don't run the rig OC'ed and couldn't push what I had any more than I had for HWbot results so watercooling was overkill at the mo. I will post some pics when I get the chance.

I didn't intend to get all new components and it started out with the new CPU and mem. Then when I removed the waterblock from my 9800GX2 and refitted the stock aircooler, I borked it! The GX2 works but displays all sorts of crap on the screen, I think I may have missed a thermal pad on one of the chips and fried it. So that meant a new GPU and £300 down the pan too. The PSU I had laying around and I liked the modular ribbon cables so I decided to use that. Then I decided I may as well upgrade the hard drives, I only had a single 250gb drive and space was limited.

So what started out as a CPU/mem upgrade has resulted in a nearly whole new rig:rolleyes:

Cheers,

Stu

I nearly forgot too, I built my eldest Daughter's new rig up today for her. She's only eight and doesn't fully understand the specs yet, but as long as she can play her games etc she will be well chuffed with it. Pics will follow on that one too.

Specs:

  • Mobo: Abit IP35 Pro
  • CPU: Pentium Dual Core E2200
  • GPU: Powercolour HD 4850
  • Mem: Geil PC2 6400 Ultra 2GB kit
  • HD: 1x WD SATA II 500GB
  • PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower 750w Modular
  • DVD: 18x DVD-RW DL
  • OS: Vista Home Premium

I used an Antec 900 for the build and there's scope for upgrades as and when she needs them. I didn't want a maxxed out rig for her as she is still too young to fully appreciate it. I have added some lights to the rig for her, as she saw them on one of my mods and asked if she could have some on her next rig. She hasn't seen it built up yet as she has been at her granddads, so fingers crossed she will love it! She has seen my other rigs on here and was chuffed, so I promised her next one would go up too:D

Truth be told mate, I think I put the camera in one of my spares boxes and then back in the garage by accident, and I can't be arsed looking today:D I will get some up tomorrow though, defo!:D

Here's a couple of shots of the internals. Haven't taken any good ones of the externals yet as I am still trying to get to grips with my new camera:D
