Hehe this is my first time building a pc and it seems that there is a mismatch of colours. The blue LED on the mobo is annoying when the room is dark though :P Any feedback guys?

Great job on your first build buddy nice work with the cables just one thing I'd do and that's remove the middle drive cage if you're not using it to improve your air flow.

Looks tidy!

I agree on the middle hdd cage and you could stick some black tape over the mobo leds :P
Also, get rid of the loose molex connector and thermal paste in the hdd cages :)

Use some acrylic paint on the LED. if done well you can get it to glow in a much better colour or just block it out completely.

if blue light is coming through and you paint it a dif colour light won't really come out.

And nice tidy build a bit of electrical tape would be ideal to cover that led, also +1 on the removal of the drive cage

It may be a slightly over the top, but the next motherboard I buy, I'm going to desolder the LED, and replace it with one of an appropriate colour for the colour scheme of the motherboard :D

Personally If you are going to desolder the LED... I wouldnt even replace it. I'm not a fan of small led lights popping up all over the place. I blacked the green one that shows on my sabertooth z77. I don't have the confidence to desolder it.

yeap i removed the hdd cage :) seems much more open now. I may even actually remove the bottom one too and relocate my hard drive and ssd

I highly doubt anybody would be silly enough to design the circuit so that anything important is in series with the LED, but just for the sake of being absolutely safe, if I wasn't going to replace it with a different LED, I'd replace it with a regular diode rather than just leaving the open circuit. The voltage drop over the diode would be slightly smaller than over the LED, but it's better than nothing. I'd be perfectly happy with an LED as long as it matched the colour scheme, I don't understand why manufacturers don't do this anyway, I can't open my toolbox without various coloured LEDs spilling out, so I'm sure they have access to them too.

colours might represent things to them when designing or they need a set resistance, which some colours dont offer with out other resistors.

Hi jerjer173 ,
Nice build , very clean and cable management is good also.
I'm not sure about the Z87 board , but on my board in the bios in the ECO (energy saving ) section there is "Motherboard LED Control" . It's default is auto but you can turn them off.
I hope this helps you and you can do this on your board.
Nice job on your first build , Congrats.
