My first build I7-950

Hey guys, would like to have a little feedback on this. I currently purchased all my goodies and put my first ever rig together a few weeks ago. Ran stock for a couple weeks. Now I'm in to the OCing. Its an ASUS Rampage III formula mobo. Using I7-950 cpu, Titan Fenrir cooler, And 6gb of Gskill trident ddr3-2000 ram.

So far- I've found that the bus speeds on the OC are very picky with this ram in the 9,9,9,24 timings. Ill add the photo of CPU-Z.

Just wanting to know some values others used with this core. I have had it to 3.8Ghz but with only 1600 on the ram. I really want to use the XMP on the ram and try to keep the CPUcoreVoltage down around 1.2-1.3 range. Thanks guys. By the way I am very new to this but I learn quick, have read tons of info. (self Learner) But I came here to get some info and maybe learn how to actually do this. Thanks Again.

Here's another pic by the way, idle temps @ 30-33 C After running Prime95 for 30 min Temps hovered between 57-64 C

I'm saving up the $ to get the XSPC kit. I want to be under water for 4.0+ range for sure.

thanks bro. currently in ROG connect at the moment. this is so much fun. I see now how addicive it can be. Thanks again for the advice. will post results later,

All you need to do now is fold for team 98860 Redline@OC3D adn join the benching team

So busy all day yesterday. Currently running at 3.6ghz. My temps stay under 60 degrees under max stress/temp test on prime. Definitely keeping ram@ 1600 helped. Done well on benchmarks. On the road now life of a trucker. Thanks for the help guys. And she uses only 1.165v for that.

Good thing comes with small steps, and you have come far m8

Temps and volts are good, maybe soon you will hit 4.0ghz and 2000 on rams

Thanks man. Its amazing how this chip hates the multi. But loves the bus thats how I got.my voltages down. I will post the cpu z tomorrow when I get back home.

Yes the multi is for the big steps and bclk for fine-tuning the bios.Looking forward to see your achievements tomorrow.

You can try these settings
smile.gif

190 x 21 or 200 x 21

Cpu vcore: 1,25-1,32

QPI/Dram: 1,35-1,40

Dram voltage: 1,65

IOH: 1,19

ICH: 1,17

Then try setting the ram divider to 2000 MHz and the uncore to 4000 MHz

This should give you a stable 4 or 4,2 ghz clock on air cooling

I strongly recomend to ignore these settings. What works for his mobo isnt valid for your mobo, only suggestions.

The way is, to learn your own settings and be familiar with your own bios.

Small steps is huge gain in the end.

It's settings for a R3F board and I7 950 cpu

There will always be small differences, even on same setup. Learning to oc in small steps and getting familiar with bios is essential for everyone who`s overclocking.

And 190x21 wont give 2000mhz on rams.

ok, ran prime for 30 mins. all good and well, im posting from my laptop, cause my rig is currently in its 8th run of Linx 064. My max temps at 3.8Ghz. with 1.2Volts have reached 75*C With a Delta temp of 50*C on average. I'm running a 19 multi with 200 Bus . So far so good, I'm running linx for 20 passes to make sure.

if this works anyone think i can bump that multi up without more volts??? we will try, maybe my 950 is as good as TTL's 1.2 Volts dead for 4.0 I sure hope so.

Ok that's my work station

Now my specs are as follows:

I7-950 @ 3.8Ghz with 1.20V VCore

XFX-6970 @950mhz and 1450ram

here's some pics

Uploading screenshots and vids now, will take a bit...

Thanks so much for all the help and info, overclock3D pwns...

Sorry mate, temps have reached limits.Safe temps is 70c.Low 70`s would also have a go,but 75 is too high.

But stable 3.8 in two days from zero is good
biggrin.gif

If you want to go any further, the noctua nh-d14 is needed or the thermalright silver arrow.

Well 3.8 at these settings is alright to run at normal use or gaming, but 100% use should be avoided, wprime and linpack(linx) or Folding is very hard to any system.

And you have come far man and you

To run rams at 2000mhz will require more volts and higher temps to cpu even at 3.8ghz.

Maybe you can lower temps by connecting fans to 12v directly from psu and run 100% fan if you havent done that. Its worth a try
