Well due to my psu being 9 years old I have decided that the first thing I am going to do is buy a new one, most likely I will go for the Corsair CX600 for £55

Just a couple of pointers and quick easy fixes. Get some cable ties, even if you can't hide the cables, and tie as many of them together into one bundle and separate each individual one off to where it needs to go (picture a tree braching off, but obviously in this case upside down). You'd be seriously surprised at how much neater it looks when you've done it. Also add the front USB and Audio cables in to the bundle if you can too.
I think I can see a bit of space behind the ODD and HDD mounts. Try to stuff as many of the cables behind there as possible.

Nowt wrong with that matey, just a few cable ties and it'll look a lot less 'disgusting'.
I've got a similar desk, about the only style that fits in the space I've got available. You soon get used to having the mouse higher than the keyboard.
