My CPU upgrade - G620 to 3570k :)

So, on sunday I ordered a shiny new 3570k to replace my g620, as I've needed a bit more cpu grunt for a while now. The new cpu arrived yesterday and needless to say I was excited

I've decided to document my upgrade and show just how much my dual core g620 was holding my pc back

There would be pics of the box etc, but I only managed to get blurry pics

but I did get a small packet of haribo tangfastics along with my shiny new 3570k, thanks to the guys at OCUK

so, down to the benches, I've decided to show load and idle temps, a cinebench run and also say roughly what fps I get in bf3 (min and max fps)

G620 idle:

G620 load:

g620 cinebench:

G620 BF3 run - 35 min 70 max damavand peak 48 man server (conquest247 (favourite server

)

and now for the 3570k benches

3570k stock BF3 run - 45 min 80+ max caspian border 48 man server (conquest247 again)

I'll be overclocking soon to see the potential of this chip

so as you can see, in terms of cinebench I get a 3x boost in points, for bf3 I get a 10fps boost to minimum framerates (this is rough as I just ran the fraps counter and occasionally looked to check the fps), but overall this was a worthy upgrade imo

My system for cooling and bench purposes is:

CPU - 3570k now
biggrin.png

mobo - p8p67 le

Graphics card - HIS 5870 1gb

RAM - 8gb of 1600mhz dominator

PSU - XFX 650w xxx edition

Case - Arctiac white Fractal Design R3

SSD - OCZ Vertex 60gb (BF3 and OS on here)

HDD - 1tb hitachi 7200 rpm

Cooling - Custom watercooling with an EK XT360 rad and 120mm Enermax clusters turned right down on my fan controller

I hope this interests/helps people looking to upgrade

A nice upgrade indeed!

One thing that troubles me about Cinebench: my 2.3GHz Sandy Bridge i7 (quad core) can reach low to mid 5s in cinebench. I know that it has more threads than the 3570k, but surely the 3570k should be leagues and leagues ahead?
