My Bloody HAF X

Very nice

Now get that GPU under water also !

Looking really good! I think I'm going to take the plunge (hopefully not literally) this week. I have to disassemble first and clean everything out, plus flush my rads. I want to get some extensions too, but will probably have to add them later.

How did you fill your rad? I don't want to leave the tubing long enough to pull the rad out. I'm hoping I can leave the CD drive out and fill it through the top. Is that what you did?

do you mean how i filled the res? well i'll answer both questions.

for the res i used extra tubing i had and an extra fitting i had, because i didn't know the fill port on the top of the res DOESN"T fit normal fitting
sleep.gif
yea i'm a noob... but it still kinda worked because my compression fitting fit slightly into the hole on the top of the res, just enough to hold it there till i pour the liquid through a little funel at the end of the tube.

as for the rad, when bleeding it took a while and involved me lifting the case and slowly turning it towards the mobo tray, so the top would go down, that way the pump always gets fed, and almost held the case upside down. i'm telling you, i think u need to do that more then a few times because the rad is the hardest thing to bleed out. I have no idea if i got all the air out, i assume i did becuase its quiet and i see 0 bubbles, BUT i still used less then a litre of fluid :S which seems little

Yeah, I meant res. Fixed in my original post. Sounds like you did what I plan on doing. Any snags you ran into? The only thing I'm really not looking forward to is getting the air out. I haven't decided on a color yet either so going with clear liquid for now. I will probably end up with blue though.

How are your temps now?

I wish but i wouldn't feel comfortable with that rad and a 580 and a 2500k, so with the block + the rad it would have cost me too much (i already spent too much on this rig as it is

)

yea filling the res like that works, but just be careful because if you're paying attention to the pouring of the liquid, you won't see the res filling up
wink.gif
then u get a little spill and a little swearing

other then that i've been pretty lucky, nothing was too bad and nothing leaked, just took my time and checked everything as i was going along.

filling the rad is definitely the worst part, but if you think positively its also a work out
tongue.gif
you gotta lift the case and turn it left, right and away from you (or wherever the pump is sucking in the water to make sure that you don't get more air in, that would suck)

edit: forgot to write about temps
tongue.gif

umm well before when folding 24/7 with both the cpu and gpu over night the highest i've seen on the hottest core was 71C, i left it folding over night and the hottest any core got was 56C, so a 15C drop in temps when folding for many hours. maybe that good? my vcore is at 1.335 in the bios and its running at 4.8GHz. i'm happy with it, just thought a 360 rad on its only loop with a 2500k would have better temps... maybe i screwed something up with the TIM (i used the noctua one btw) or maybe put too much/little pressure on the raystorm

I think those temps are fine bro a 15c drop is awesome. I only got about a 5-7c drop in load temps going from the D-14 to this. But I also have the 2600K with all 8 cores pumping
smile.gif
during out pm sessions while ya was stabilizing ur oc I kept sayg dayum why are you getting more with less vcore than me. Now I see lol I have HT on so I needed the extra juice for those. But shes looking good mate but we need MOAR PIC!!!!!

Haha kk I'll take more pics for you, just have to wait a day or two cuz I'm out today

.

Yea a 2600k will put out more heat and will need more volts to run the extra threads

So 15C drop is just about right, good then no need to worry

Aaah, I was actually thinking of building a VERY similar rig in a couple of months. The different things would be a CM Storm Trooper case and 2 x 240mm rads, one in the top and another in the bottom, Corsair Vengeance RAM, Corsair AX850 PSU and a i7 2700k. I would have probably used EK watercooling parts mostly, but eh, now I've decided to wait until the Ivy bridge comes out and see how the GPU's go... The whole thing ads up bloody pricey...

Wanted to ask you, how do you feel about the Asus Matrix GTX 580 and the Extreme-z motherboard? Totally enough? Happy?
biggrin.gif

I'll still probably choose CM ST case and hope 2 x 240 mm rads will be enough for cooling both CPU and GPU. Although, maybe I'll end up without watercooling anything because of the cost...

Love the looks. The only things that cought my eye were the red Bitfenix wires, I would have probably chose black, and the other is that the Bitfenix Spectre Pro red fan looks more orange than red. Or is it just in the pictures? I'm also planing to use them, but now I'm a bit confused. Maybe it's better to go with the black ones just because the red is not dark enough?

Firstly about the matrix and the Extreme-z : if you wanna even think about WCing, do NOT choose the matrix, get an EVGA 580. I say this because its not a reference design, and so it would be much more complicated to do right. Performance wise, if you keep it on air like i did -> its AWESOME, people say there are better OCers like the msi lightning, but i'm happy with it. I run 2 screens, one is a 1920x1200 (main screen and if i game it's on that), and a secondary screen 1680x1050, just for checking temps if gaming, but more importantly its useful when doing homework. this thing runs anything smooth at ultra setting without OCing it, so if you wanna push it, go right ahead (i did at the beginning but didn't see too much of a difference because once you get past 50-60 even 70 fps it doesn't really matter in MY opinion.

The mobo is great, but probably overkill. I like the way it looks and i think it allowed me to get a nice 4.8ghz at 1.335votls, but its got so much more features that i'll probably never use.

Next the bitfenix fan does look orange in the pics.... IRL it looks more red, mind you its not a very deep red, BUT thats only when its off, i got it pluged in and its got red LEDs so when its in the system it glows red and looks good, it fits right in.

The cables are not too bright, maybe the flash made them look shiny or something? i don't really know, i mentioned before i don't really know how to use a camera other then point and click
tongue.gif
umm but yea in person they are friking awesome, and i wouldn't change anything. (but its all person taste, if you buy anything in person you can see it in front of you and can make the decision for urself, also you can go to the review on the fans and cables, 99.99% sure tom did a video on the cables, and a written on the fans, you can check their pics, they'll be better quality)

K well since i'm at home now, i need to start cable tidying
sad.gif
i hate, HATE that ) and then i'll take some more pics with the system running, and also show the front... which i forgot about before

looks great bro but I'm wondering if ya tried the led in the rez yet?? zi know its blue but ponder what it would look like thru the red fluid. I know when I put mine in while the fluid looks blue under normal lights it makes it look green thu the rez (I used uvgreen and blue in my mix)

humm, interesting thought, but no i haven't tried, right now it actually looks black from the front , i guess since its dark in side the case there isn't really much light, but i should try it later. Truth is i just cleaned up everything and put everything away, and i don't feel like finding the LEDs and taking anything apart to try out the colors (plus red and blue usually end up purple, in this case probably a dark purple) but since its a red/black theme anyways its not worth it
tongue.gif

was just a thought wondering if ya had tried it lol. I can understand having it all cleaned up and not wanting to fark with it. I get the same way plus I mis-placed my led but luck smiled on me and when I wasnt looking for it there she was lmao

Thanks guys
smile.gif
right now i'm in the process of trying to 'make' my own LEDs to light up the raystorm block and the res, but since i'm using wires, tape, and leds i bought and only have a molex to work with (so 5v, 7v, or 12v) i'm experimenting how to configure them up so i don't burn them out and i think i'm going to have to just use 2 leds on the block and hide one in the back of the case because i think i need 3 leds in series to work without going out again to buy resistors.

when (or IF) i get it working i'll post a couple more pics
