Ok so a little while ago I posted a topic about what your favorite rig was and I also said I was going to start trying to build another rig the same because I missed the old rig some what.

Here are the specs of my old beloved rig

Motherboard: Asus P5Q Pro

Video Card: Asus 9800GTX+ DK

RAM: 4x2GB Corsair XMS2 800MHz

CPU: Intel Q9400 Core 2 Quad

\|/\|/\|/\|/Less important stuff\|/\|/\|/\|/

Case: Antec 900 Two

Power Supply: Corsair TX750

HDD: 2x WD Blacks RAID-0

So here is my progress and cost so far with a few things different

Motherboard: Asus P5Q Pro - $60AU (£38.9) secondhand included the CPU

Video Card: Asus 9800GTX+ DK - I already owned this still from my old rig

RAM: 2x2GB Corsair Dominator 1066MHz - I got given this I was like OMG *smile*

CPU: intel core 2 duo E7300 - Came with mobo

\|/\|/\|/\|/Less important stuff\|/\|/\|/\|/

Case: Antec 300 - Brought new for $60AU (£38.9)

Power Supply: Cool Master RS-550 - Brought new for $79AU (£51.22)

HDD: laptop drive + storage drives - I already had HDD's sitting around but the laptop drive is failing so I'll replace that and my storage HDD's are in it

So all up its cost me about $200AU (£129.66)

I am using it as a server storage box at the moment, I going to see if server 2008 will run some games now that I have all the drivers in place. but next up is a new OS drive as its failing. I also have a Q9400 lined up pretty cheap I just have to go pick it up but it is 450km's away.

Ah memories. Should make a good file server no doubt. How is the noise? I've honestly never used an Intel stock cooler on any of my rigs.

Is there space to turn those drives around?

This stock fan isn't bad on this but it's only a E7300 so I can't imagine it gets that hot. The fan on the 9800GTX+ on the other hand is the loudest thing in the case. I wis I could turn those drives around but they sit to close to the front in take fans.

It is a pretty good file server but I'm not getting very fast speeds between my main rig and it. I think it's some thing to do with the network drivers on win 2008 but I ain't looked into it yet.
