My AMD Rig

I noticed that not a lot of you here actually post AMD rigs so i thought i'd create a change of scenary

Specs of my machine are:

AMD Phenom II Black Edition x4 955 3.2ghz

OCZ 4GB DDR3 1333mhz

ASUS M4A79T Motherboard

Antec 902 Case

OCZ MODXSTREAM-PRO 700W PSU

ATI Radeon XFX 4890

WD Caviar 500GB x2 Raid 0

Creative X-Fi Titanium Champion series

All of this cost around £900, a little more than expected but worth the money because it is absolutly stagering.

my wiring isn't perfect, and the AMD stock cooler is poor but i do have a few more upgrades to come. i need suggestions for a new CPU cooler which will allow some pretty serious overcloking

Looks like spagetti junction in there fella I would start by investing in some cable ties and tidying it up a bit to improve air-flow - no use getting a better cooler and extra fans if the air can't move through properly especially if you want to do some serious overclocking.

I went for the Arctic cooling freezer extreme on my quad core and it dropped idle temps by just under 10 degrees idle and a little less again at full load. Thats only at 3Ghz however. To be honest im not an expert on this - but if you mean really going for it with overclocking you'll need to think about water cooling.

Jus a quick suggestion, Domino A.L.C cooler or custom water loop!

I had a quick tidy in my machine because i know it is needed.

i'm not quite sure how i can make it as tidy as the rest of them on here.

but from the image you can see the wiring is a little better and i turned the hard drives round.

What do you think about that Asus M4A79T? I'm still sort of on the fence about the Gigabyte 790FXT-UD5P I have.

The M4A79T is a great motherboard, i love it, does everything you'd expect. it even helps to keep the computer cooler too. overclocking is simpler and you have profiles to store your best overclocks. if an overclocks fail the motherboard restarts and sets the overclock back to the most recent configuration which worked well. you really cannot fault it really. it's at a reasnable price now too.

the only major flaw with the motherboard is the layout of the pci-e 16x slots. there are four of them which is brilliant however, the bottom two are too close which stops you crossfiring a larger 2 bay graphic such as the one i used (4890). because most graphic cards now use two bays, i didn't find that asus layed the two ports out well enough to crossfire four graphic cards.

i am now getting to the age of driving and recently got a new laptop for christmas. which makes it seem pointless having the desktop. since the pictures it is pretty much the same apart from it now has 2x 12 speed blue LED tubes, one at the top and the other at the bottom. the wiring is of course a lot tidyer.

i have been considering selling it to help pay for a new car and i was wondering if any of you here had an estimate as to what it's worth.

if i was to sell it, it would also come with a NEC 2170NX LCD Display and Packard Bell 5.1 sound systme (center speaker missing)
