Good luck with your overclocking, dude :)
What cooling do you have, may I ask?

Its an EVGA superclock. Its not the best, but i bought it because it gets decent reviews and looks the absolute business. According to the reviews it performs around the same mark as the Prolimatech Super Mega and the NH-C14.

So im a day late, but everythings up and running now. Not started overclocking yet, just formatting an old HDD before i start downloading benchmark/stress test stuff - dont wanna fill my lovely new SSD up on the first day ;D

Its my first time seating a CPU cooler, so ive been a bit paranoid about it. Just looking at Core Temp now - everything at stock, idle, getting temps of 20-26C, which sounds pretty good to me - what do we think?

Good stuff. Working my way up, just attempting to get 4.4 stable and check temps now. Quick question - on the vdroop menu, where it goes from levels 1-7, which end is more extreme? Ive got it set to level 4 now, as recommended, and according to cpuz from idle to load the volts are dropping from 1.224 -> 1.192. That sound about right?

Sorry for all the noob questions, dont wanna turn this into an overlocking thread lol, but you guys have been really helpful so far :)

From my experience with the gd65 I believe that the most extreme is 7 !! My 3570k needed 1.225 volts for 4.5ghz and I had the vdroop set to level 3 !!! In cpuz the volts were going up and down from 1.225 to 1.206 or something like this !! But wait till the other guys reply to you !!

i'm running 4.6Ghz @ 1.250/1.254v with droop set to auto (as wasn't sure where to set it lol).
its 24/7 stable with permanent f@h activity and survives IBTx10@Max with temps hitting 84 think it was, but may play with droop levels a bit when get time

I'll be joining this delightful group in a week or two, will post my oc results with my 3570k and GD65 when I get round to it :)

Glad to have you :)

On a side note, anyone else having this problem of mine? If my computer has been powered off for a long time, sometimes I'll go back to it to turn it on, it will turn on for a second or two then restart. After it restarts, it won't show anything on the monitor until I power it on and off a couple times until it does the on for a couple seconds then resets thing again, which is when I see picture on the screen. Also, sometimes in stanby (S3) when I go to resume the computer just powers off and on a couple times and I need to reset it again. It's hard to explain but if you have this problem you'll know what I mean. Not sure if it's a graphics card problem, a mobo problem, or maybe a PSU problem, I don't know. Any help is appreciated.

the on off a couple of times appears to be a bios bug as if you look at the post leds it won't get to 99 or a0 (at least on mine thats what happens)

Ive been playing around a bit. Got LLC set to level 1, volts are about 1.2 i think (im away from home atm, should be back on wednesday). Thats at 4.3ghz. I was getting a load of WHEA messages, but that seemed to be due to the fact i put xmp (1600mhz) on but left the memory volts at auto. Bumped them up to about 1.57 now, and getting no errors in the 60 mins i tested it.

Gonna try for 4.4ghz and 1833 memory when i get back, but ill be happy with 4.3 either way.

That's not what happens on mine, for me it completely boots, I hear the login sound and everything (A0 code) just no video. Currently on the 10.3 BIOS because the 10.5 is pretty buggy, but it's happened on 10.5 as well. I think MSI needs to get on updating the BIOS for such a popular board, because all these issues are a little ridiculous.

Edit: I was bored, so I just wrote an angry email to MSI about the buggy BIOS. Not expecting much, but I'll keep you posted if something happens.

This was my response, it'll probably be a while til the BIOS comes out I would guess.
Dear Chris,

Our BIOS team is still working on BIOS updates for this board. They are currently in beta and will be uploaded to the website once ready.

Also, has anyone figured out if it's possible to do offsets with these boards?

So i reckon im done with overclocking. Currently sat at 4.3ghz, 1.232v idle, 1.216v load. Left the RAM at 1600. Tried 1833, but decided i just couldnt really be bothered with the hassle after an hour or so. Running prime blend currently and getting temps of 73C max on the hottest core, 65C on the coolest. IBT get its to maybe 82C?

Motherboard settings are 1.245v cpu, LLC level 0, XMP enabled, 1.514v ram (wasnt playing nice at auto). Power saving and turbo all off.

I reckon i could get 4.4 and 1833 with a bit more work, but the temps would be pushing it a bit, and its just not worth it for the fairly minimal performance increase.

Pretty happy with my first effort at overclocking anyway ^^ graphics card should be here tomorrow. Gone for the MSI 7850 power edition, will post pics in the rig gallery when its all together :)

I thought so too, looking at what some others have been able to get. Nope, EIST is disabled and "Enhanced Turbo" is disabled (cant find "turbo boost" as an option, so i assume its that).

Enhanced Turbo and Intel Turbo should both be disabled (intel Turbo will disappear as an option when EIST is disabled). Yea that Vcore looks high to me for that clock.

Yeah, that was the problem. Id obviously disabled EIST without disabling turbo boost first and just not noticed it had disappeared. Sorted now, thanks man. Gonna knock the volts back and see how i get on.

Thanks guys ^^ still learning here haha
