Moving to 64... help me choose!

alrighty... i have read reviews and people are saying that the overclocking isnt all that great for it but it is a good stable board.. anywho, besides the DFI and Gigabyte is there another nice, stable board for under or around $120? Overclocking capabilites would be nice, i hear the neo2 plat is good, but I want to hear everyone here's opinions :cool: thanks for all the help so far

okk yeah well the neo platinum 2 are good but have a tendencie to arrive broken but if you get one that works they are probably next best to dfi .... but neo 2's dont work with antec psu so if you have one forget about it ... ummmm asus are good boards but shitty overclockers tho. ABit are good designed by the same guy who designed the DFI's
 
The -5v rail is only for the integrated Sound Blaster Live! Chip. A lot of other PSU's out there don't have the -5v rail, too. It has something to do with the circuitry of the motherboard, and PSU.
 
Neo2 doesnt have an onboard soundblaster chip . Wonder what you guys are talking about.

I have no idea why Neo2 and Antec dont like each other but thats the truth. But if you really dont want a DFI then get Neo2 . Abit boards are too fragile and many users have ended up cracking the board. Asus are fine to a certain extent but they are rarely able to go north of 250 mhz on the fsb side. Even its hard for a Neo2 to go beyond 280 mhz , and takes a lot of tweaking , often involving overclocking in windows using clockgen.

But neo2 till now has been the most stable 939 NF3 board out of the box. I have used about 5 till now and none of them was a DOA. People just have to realise that MSI boards have a history of being sensitive to static electricity and take care while installing them.

The best grounded board that I have ever come across is an ABIT . Its bloody hardy and no matter how much i abused it while installing and all that crap , it boots right off the bat.
 
Very nice board, indeed! Giga-Byte is a very nice company, and with my experiences, Kempez's experiences, and Daves experiences, i think they can all agree :D
 
I HAVE to stop you harmonic. have you seen how well my Giga-Byte board OC/ed!? It got my pc 2.4c to 3ghz stable and daves 2.66ghz celeron to 3.6ghz stable! same exact board ( i bought and sold to dave)

GREAT boards.

new a friend who had a similar model to mine, got his 2.6C to 3.25GHz, and look @ kemp's 7800GTX! OC/s like theres no tmoz.

also,..cpu mag reviewed that mobo a while back and said it was a GREAT overclocker.

your board doenst oc for shit cos its a via chipset ;). NO via chipset OC/s well, NONE.

yes i suppose... yeah it does depend on the chipset ;) the gigabytes with the intel chipsets are the best :rolleyes:

okk well if your going to go with the neo2 .... take into consideration these points

- DONT STATIC IT AT ALL OR ITS DEAD

-DONT USE AN ANTEC PSU ON IT OR ITS DEAD

otherwise its great :D goodluck mate
 
when installing hold it by the sides, or use the static bag like a glove.

i generally hold mobo's by slot's and cpu brakcet's, i dont even do that with msi's; very fragile.

i had no trouble with mine. i just touched the power supply before i started working, and then kept at least 1 part of my body touching the case at all times. stable as a rock, and most certainly not fried :p
