Moden Router Advise Please

Hi all

My Netgear DG834G v5 has died on me, it's been dropping connection for weeks.

So i'm in the market for a good router, I will spend around the £100 for a quality product.

I am not a networking wiz so something that is fairly easy to set up like the Netgear was would be appreciated.

I am on IdNet and have a static IP, I will be needing to do VPN for work and possibly VOIP in the near future.

I would like to go wireless N but I still need legacy for wireless G devices.

All advise is appreciated.

As Tom says check your warranty first but if you decide to buy a new router then a netgear or a Lynksys will do you well for your needs. Most work VPN's just need the router to be configured correctly and VoIP shouldnt be a problem for most new routers.

I currently use 2 cheap netgear wgt64 routers, which costs no more than about £60 for both, and use 1 as a wireless access point for better wifi coverage. I can connect to my work VPN and use VoIP no problems.

They are very easy to setup, and I have had them both for 3years now with no problems.

Personally I wouldnt pay loads of money for a home router as most of the advance functionality the expensive models offer will generally not be used unless you have a small office environment.

Good luck :)
