MOBO & SSD Temps !!! PLEASE HELP

Hi I just built my new rig. I used some HW monitoring programs and I found that the motherboard "ASUS P8P67 PRO" temp at idle is 60 degrees. Also, my SSD "Corsair Force 3 Series 120GB" is 128 degrees.

Is that normal. for the motherboard is it because of the northbridge. What do u think here are the screenshots. Thanks

speccy is a piece of crap imho, dont trust it. dont remember which other program monitors ssd temps though.. but im sure somebody on the forum knows

My SSD doesn't have a temp sensor and reads like 256*c or something like that, yours could be the same way.

^^Same here, temperature monitors show a temperature of 123 C but if it was that hot, it would have burned through the plastic mount.

What about the mobo??

Hi,

I just looked at the screenshot of your temperatures and I have exactly the same motherboard and SSD you have. I then checked my Hardware Monitoring software and the SSD temperatures read 128 C for the SSD and 60 C for the Motherboard.

I know these temperatures are not correct because I have a fan controller setup with one of the temperature sensors very close to the motherboard and the temperature shown on the controller ranges from 29 - 31 C. When I first saw the temperature reading for the SSD I took the left hand side panel off and felt the SSD to check how hot it was. It wasn't hot at all.

Thanks for the reply. So do u think this is normal? I found out that the 60degrees on the mobo is the "CPUTIN" after using "CPUID HWmonitor"

btw, u are correct about SSD, because in HWmonitor it also shows 128degrees. Looks like the sensor is fixed

I think it's normal. No software will be 100% correct. Just by touching the SSD you can tell the software is way off and as for the motherboard my fan controller shows a "normal" temperature.

A few things...extremely tired now so please, bear with me.

  • Firstly, SSDs have no moving parts and so therefore there isn't really anything to get hot. Most SSDs don't have an internal sensor or even a sensor at all, so you get odd readings

like 1c or 128c. The reading you're getting which is most likely the correct reading (of 31c) is the assembly reading: the approximate reading of the outside of the SSD.
  • The NB I'm not 100% about. As another poster has exactly the same problem, I'm guessing it's just the sensor not being compatiable with some software and monitoring programs. If it's showing CPUTIN as the one with a reading of 60c...run a little torture test to see if that rises immediately. If it does, it's the CPU and that should be OK (if it's an intel CPU).
  • Night.
