Wow, it got real...

Can't say I blame them really. Adding CPU support means work on the main kernel and that's aggro.

TBH the process of installing Windows 7 on Skylake systems for review is a annoying and stupid process a lot of the time.

For as much as people will inevitably slate MS for this decision, I for one can see where this can in fact help the tech and gaming worlds. Yes it is another way for MS to force Win 10 on everyone, but at the same time is finally creating a level and equal base when it come to OS support for future games and software. One of many reasons that software will not work across multiple PC's is due to poor support for older/newer OS versions.

am i the only one that really hates this decision? Imo its no more than pushing people to windows 10 even harder than they ever did before. They tried with w8 but now they're just taking it to a next level.

Kinda ed though

I don't like this, I like Windows 8.1 for example and haven't really tested Windows 10. And haven't heard the best "reviews" on it either...

Stop worrying. If you like 8.1 then you'll love 10.

It's only the Windows 8 hate brigade that don't want to install Win 10.

Windows 10 is pretty much Windows 7 with some tweaks to the UI.

As AlienALX said, No need to worry :)

Windows 10 was nice until I tried to run my ENB on Skyrim. Kept getting errors and CTD's that I didn't with Win7. M$ and nVidia need to fix those problems before I move over.

I'm using 8.1 and I'm refusing to install 10 on any important machines after it BRICKED my Surface Pro 3 in September. So yeah, not just the Windows 8 hate brigade, If it can't run reliably on MSFT's own sodding device, no way in hell i'm letting it near anything else..

Not even there fault.. that issue would belong to the mod itself. But seeing as plenty of people are running that mod on W10, it's probably user error bud.

I upgraded a SP3 to W10. Easiest upgrade I've done. Probably user error. Sorry but most cases I've seen online usually have some fault on user sides. It's always recommended to do a clean OS install after upgrading. Even on OSX that should be done. Don't do that then can't blame MS. You are bound to run into issues if not

I can see this is going to end badly for Microsoft, IMO good if it does they need to be taken down a peg or two.

Microsoft is trying to pull an Apple here bye leaving people behind, It works on Apple cause it has a smaller user base it will not work on Windows.

Then don't upgrade. Not a big deal really. It's smarter for them to drop support anyway and gives Intel and AMD better reasons to add neww features that only W10 could comply with and give a baseline for devs to work with. It's smart business, besides should have seen this coming, they already dropped support for W7 and 8.1 with adding content. They are only releasing security fixes, hence why new CPUs will only work for 10. If you want the latest and greatest hardware you should also have the latest and greatest OS, aka W10 in this case.

TBH there trying to do with Apple has done for years, For Microsoft it will not work IMO

Well maybe for a start Microsoft should have written a better OS first like removing NTFS and add WINFS does any one remember WINFS cause that should have been in bye now also when installing programs don't have it going to 50 different areas on the hard drive it should just all be in one area.

I have a feeling it won't fail because the majority of people who buy new PC's buy them prebuilt with an OS already on it so for the majority of people this won't even be an issue they would think of.

Remember enthusiasts like us are in the extreme minority.

Recently redownloaded W10 on my school laptop, and it is just as bad as when I got it in September, except it is actually more unstable than before. W10 has already removed some of my favorite features from windows 8.1 (hey, the charms bar grows on you) such as the approximate data use meter, and now I have to restart every so often to be able to use the taskbar, search and windows key?! It has been known to cause issues with ASUS laptop keyboards, (lenovo default driver... thx win) and bricked one of my friend's notebooks so bad it had to be replaced under warranty.I refuse to install it on my desktop until I have time to troubleshoot all the bull from MS this summmer

8.1 for life = ignore the start screen's existence
