The new Microsoft Surface Pro 3 was released today, at least in the US and only in a few flavours though:

- 256GB / i5 Processor / 8GB RAM - $1,699 - Released June 20th
- 256GB / i7 Processor / 8GB RAM- $1,949 - Released August 31st
- 512GB / i7 Processor / 8GB RAM- $2,349 - Released August 31st

For the UK the details are:

- 64GB / i3 Processor / 4GB RAM - £639 - Released August 28th
- 128GB / i5 Processor / 4GB RAM - £849 - Released August 28th
- 256GB / i5 Processor / 8GB RAM - £1,109 - Released August 28th
- 256GB / i7 Processor / 8GB RAM - £1,339 - Released August 28th
- 512GB / i7 Processor / 8GB RAM - £1,649 - Released August 28th

It's a shame that the UK has to wait so long and that the higher spec'd version aren't out 'till late too.

Anyone interested in Surface Pro 3?

*Cheers for the edit mods!* (new post so you don't have to review it again)

Not much interest here it seems, understandably as it's probably not much of an overclocker! I've just ordered one from the States, to use for work and replacing the ipad the other half keeps "borrowing" :).

I just hope that I find it half as useful as I think it'll be.

Just thought I should fix those prices for the US because the listed prices are absolutely way off.

In the same order:
- 64GB / i3 Processor / 4GB RAM - $799 - Released August 31st
- 128GB / i5 Processor / 4GB RAM - $999 - Released June 20th
- 256GB / i5 Processor / 8GB RAM - $1,299 - Released June 20th
- 256GB / i7 Processor / 8GB RAM- $1,549 - Released August 31st
- 512GB / i7 Processor / 8GB RAM- $1,949 - Released August 31st

Got this according to Microsofts Website. You were about $400 off on each tier which is why it seemed so high to me that I bothered to fix it:P.
Release dates are correct according to the info on MS website however.

The current surface pros are alot cheaper than these. Then again these have stupid amount of grunt for the size. I'd still rather get an ultrabook/MBP over one of these though.

I'm assuming these are laptop i7s?

Their official site only states

U (ultra portible) series ones, yeah.

I'd burn my money before buying a mac :D

Just put windows on it and you just have a very well built, pretty laptop. Not even that bad value nowadays, mainly thanks to certain companies being greedy. That said, my Lenovo yoga pro beats the Macbook air in lightness while being a bit more powerful for the same price.
Then again, it wasn't cheap :(

They are quite expensive but remember what it is. The cost is in miniaturisation, the SSD, a 2160x1440 display in a 12" screen, the digitiser (shame it's NTrig and not Wacom but hey ho), the battery tech. Faster than my work laptop and half as light, twice as useful.

Couple this with OneDrive to sync between other devices (even my iphone), this is seriously going to help with work.

I think Microsoft may have got it sorted with this version.

They are offering very big price cuts on the Pro 2 as well once the Pro 3 releases. Though imo the Pro 3 is the only one so far worth getting.

Received my Surface Pro 3 from the US earlier last week :). I opted for the i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD version which I think is the sweet spot between power/storage/cost.

I've spent a bit of time playing around with it, more so with Windows 8.1 as I've never used it before. I can tell you this, Windows 8.1 was made for this device!

It's awesome! Sorry for the darkish pic, a quick afterthought.

I'm guessing you're loving it then :D? What do you use it for out of curiosity (i.e. a replacement for a laptop)?

8.1 is actually good, so thats why the surface 3 is probably half decent. :)

My lenovo Yoga pro cost around the same as your surface 3 and it came with an i7. Big fan of touchscreen goodness though ^_^

Indeed I do :). I'm using it mainly for office tasks, OneNote in particular, it's a great program when using the stylus. You can even search words that you've handwritten depending on your scrawl :). The palm detection is great for a ntrig digitiser, only had a few issues where the calendar pops up when I'm lay my wrist, or triggering the Windows icon (it's a capacitive button). Being able to 'ink' comments on to Word docs or spreadsheets is really useful, don't have to carry paper versions that I'm reviewing.

An i7 would have been nice but more expensive still and I didn't want to wait a month until it was released. Windows 8.1 with a touch screen is a perfect coalescence, but I'll still be using Windows 7 for my main rig for a while yet!

What is Microsoft Office like on the Surface tablets? I think you can get them on iPad now can't you?

As SPS says below, it's the same version, but with the ability to 'ink' in documents, presentations etc. 'Inking' is just a fancy term for being able to use the stylus to handwrite stuff on top.

It runs full Windows 8 mate, so it's the same version as the desktop.
