I need a quick 101 on the meaning and importance of timing and if one type of timing ie. 8 8 8 24 is more suited to one application to the exclusion of another . If this is too extensive a topic for a forum thread , a link to an article you approve of would be greatly appreciated . Ty in advance :o

while that link talks about timings its also over a year old and benching have shown that timings are more dependent on platforms these days. With IB and Sb being more bandwidth happy than timing happy. So there is no short answer to your question without alot more info from you.

As long as you don't have an AMD APU, you can go cheap on RAM. Get youself a nice & cheap 2x4GB 2133/2400 and you'll be good as gold. The Kingston 2400 Predator have a quite nice MSRP nowadays, imho.

yeah those are excessive simply due to cost vs gain get urself some decent 1866 or 2133 or even 2400 and call it a day

ok so too sum things up . I should go for a total of 8 gigs of up to 2400MHz at a reasonable price .. Any other specs to look for or be wary of ??

Check the clearance, if you have a big air-cooler, and don't pay a lot more for a tighter kit or anything like that :)
