Maybe a silly question?

I am looking at a new Z77 board as part of my upgrade path, but have noticed that most seem to be shipping with 2x lan ports, what can i do with the second?

two Ethernet cables = double internet speed for instant pr0n

but seriously you could use your computer as a bridge or some wacky networking poop.

Meaning you could connect an ethernet cable directly from your modem/router and bridge the connection and send a connection out of the other ethernet to something like a console.

Google powahs activate!

  • You wish to use a specific dual homed PC as a Gateway/Router to share an Internet connection coming from a dedicated modem instead of using a dedicated device
  • You wish to use a specific dual homed PC as a powerful Firewall paired with a dedicated modem/router instead of using a dedicated firewall, such as the one in many routers.
  • You wish to use a specific dual homed PC as a Bridge, Router or Forwarder to connect two similar networks which cannot be connected directly due to issues with the physical location, wiring or hub/switch constraints
  • You want the ability to access a Private network/intranet and the Internet (or another private network) at the same time, yet keep the two networks isolated for network bandwidth and security reasons
  • You wish to increase the Ethernet bandwidth available to a workstation or server by using teaming or bonding features, which combine Ethernet ports

hmmm bonding seems like a very good proposition, now to search how to implement this into uploading to my server

would this method also help reduce latency in gaming?

Wont do anything for latency unless your running a REALLY old network system internally, its 99% down to the internet in your area.

I think it's just one of the marketing gimmick. Normal user wont need to have 2 network cards unless the PC is to be used as some sort of server.
